“You want me? You need me?” he asks, his voice low and raspy.
I nod. Swallowing back unshed tears, I answer him. “Yes, Daemon. I love you. I need you.”
He pulls out and shoots his hips forward, setting a fast pace that has me seeing stars. I moan and move my hips, meeting him stroke for stroke. His hard, thick cock is hitting all the right places. My toes curl as my orgasm mounts. Bracing himself over me, he nuzzles my neck, licking a path from my earlobe down to my breasts. It is all too much. I am so damn close.
Grasping my hip, he thrusts harder. Without warning, I explode. Trembling, I convulse around him, gripping his cock hard, and pulling him over the edge with me. Rocking his hips against me one last time, I feel his seed release and shoot deep within my womb, coating and owning me.
Laying boneless, and tired, we both fight to get our breathing under control. I am not sure how much time passes as we lay curled up against each other. By the time we both pull away from each other the sun is sitting high up in the sky.
Brushing a sweaty stand of hair from my face, Daemon stands and pull on his pants. “Why don’t you go take a relaxing shower and I will fix us some lunch.”
I smile, just now realizing how hungry I actually am. Good sex will do that to you. “Sounds like a plan,” I say brushing a kiss across his lips.
As he leaves the room, I go start the shower, and wait while for the water to get nice and hot. Just as I am about to climb in, I hear my cell phone ringing. Biting out a curse, I turn and head back to my room. It takes a moment to find where I threw it earlier when we came home. With the blinding anger that was brewing within me earlier, I’m surprised I even remembered to grab it out of the car. Finding it hiding behind one of my pillows, I quickly hit the accept button before it has a chance to roll over to voicemail.
“Hello?’ I answer breathlessly.
“Is this Ms. Dawson?” I frown, not recognizing the female voice addressing me.
“Yes, this is she. How can I help you?”
“Oh good. I am so glad I finally got you. My name is Mrs. Greggor, I am the head nurse at Cinders Hospital in Houston, Texas.” Hearing her say the name of the hospital not far from my home, my heart rate spikes. Everything around me seems to turn fuzzy as panic grips me tight.
“Please don’t let anything be wrong with Sasha or Tony,” I silently pray.
“Ms. Dawson, are you there? Did you hear what I said?” Mrs. Greggor’s worried voice pulls me from my internal worry.
I lick my parched lips. “I’m here,” I whisper. “I didn’t hear you. Sorry, what were you saying?”
She sighs, now sounding very tired. “Last night we admitted a gentleman by the name of Gary Coleman. He had been in a very serious car accident. When we searched his belongings we found his insurance card. He has you listed as his emergency contact. We have him stable right now, but we need to make some decisions regarding his care, and can’t go any further without your consent. Could you please come to the hospital as soon as possible so we can go over the procedures with you?”
I suck in a harsh breath. “I...What?” I sink onto the bed, not trusting my legs to hold me up anymore.
“I know this must be a horrible shock for you, Ms. Dawson, but time is really of the essence. There is some swelling on his brain, so we have him in an induced coma at the moment. But he has several fractures and other medical issues that we need to go over with you. When do you think you could get here?”
I am not sure when Daemon entered the room. He could have been there the whole time and I wouldn’t have noticed. Everything around me seems to be moving in slow motion. One moment I am listening to Mrs. Greggor tell me that my ex-fiancé is in the hospital and needs my help, and the next Daemon is taking the phone from me. He talks to her in a low voice while holding me against him his side. I close my eyes, letting his warmth seep into me.
Setting my phone down, he gives me a pained look. “Are you okay?” His hand caressing my side, tightens around me, and in a blink he is pulling me closer to him. Resting his head against mine, he lets out a jagged breath.
“We’ve got to go back, baby,” he sighs. “I hate that you have to do this, but they really need you to make some important decisions on his behalf. I’ll call ahead and have the jet fueled and ready within the hour. Are you feeling well enough to pack or would you like me to have James do it for you?”
I shake my head. My mind is in a complete fog. “I don’t want this responsibility,” I mumble. “Gary and I are over. Surely there is someone more qualified to decide the best care for him.”
I looking to him for clarification that I’m right. I’m disappointed. The bleak look he is gives me tells me I’m not. Why is this happening?
“I hate this,” he rasps, running a hand through his hair. “I am sure he has someone else that could help, but he never updated his emergency contact. Until he wakes up and can speak for himself that responsibility rests on you.”
Reaching for my hand he pulls me up and wraps me in his arms. I melt into him. Closing my eyes, I breathe him in, wishing I could absorb some of his strength. “I’ll be with the entire time, Tulip,” he says, real concern coating his words. “You don’t have to do this by yourself. I’m here.”
I nod, not trusting myself to speak. My throat is full of emotion, and not just from hearing about Gary. Of course, I am worried for Gary, but this moment has also brought on another clarity.
I’m not alone.
Life might throw hurdles at me and try to knock me down, but I don’t have to face it alone. Daemon really does love me. Without cause or condition he will stand by me and help me face whatever comes my way.
Pulling away, I give him a smile. Not a weak or sad smile, but a real one that proves that I will be fine. “I’ve got this. You go get yourself packed and make the arrangements. I’ll call and let Sasha and Tony know what is going on.”
Leaning forward I brush a kiss against his lips. “It’s time to go home.”
