I am lucky to have the world’s funniest and most generous son-in-law, Ben Powell. Without him, the computer would have crashed, my sense of humor wouldn’t have survived, and I wouldn’t have discovered how much fun reality television could be. A great screenwriter, Ben has been my most trusted advisor and confidante. To his parents, Marie and Patrick Powell and Gram Dot, thank you for your enthusiasm, and for Ben.
To my compass, my True North, my beloved daughter, Ariel—my heart isn’t big enough to hold the love. She gave me the perfect place to work in her home, and when the day’s work was done, she fed me farm fresh meals and relentlessly insisted I take care of myself. She took me on her journey out of Hollywood and held my hand as she showed me the way back to basics, then gave me a position in her new endeavor, LACE (Local Agriculture Community Exchange). She never knew her father and me as a couple, but after he died, she quietly asked, “Mom, would you like to go over to Dad’s? Would you like some time to be alone there, with him, with his things?” Thank you, Ariel, for always knowing.
Saving the best for last, to my grandsons, Maximus Patrick and Augustus Warren Zevon-Powell. They keep it all real.
