“Oh, Daddy,” Sophia cried. “It’s beautiful.” She turned to Darcy who held the ring between two fingers. “Is that an engagement ring? Are you going to marry Daddy now?”
“Sophia,” Eli admonished, “I’m supposed to do the asking.”
Sophia grinned at her dad. “Of course you’re going to marry Darcy. That’s what I asked Santa for, and he promised me I’d get my wish.” She jumped up and clapped her hands.
Marilyn and Barbara corralled the excited child. “Why don’t we head into the dining room for breakfast?” Barbara said. She took Sophia firmly by the hand, but Sophia resisted, never taking her eyes off Darcy and Eli until she was pulled around the corner and out of sight.
Eli pulled Darcy to her feet. “Will you marry me?”
Darcy looked at him. “Well—”
“You’re never going to make things easy, are you?” he said, in an exasperated tone.
“What fun would that be?” Darcy tilted her head up at him. Joy filled her as she gazed at him.
He pulled her over to the doorway and glanced up. A sprig of mistletoe hung over the doorway.
“Say yes,” he said.
She smiled at him, twined her arms around his neck and kissed him. “Hell yes.”
