Thanks to all the booksellers, librarians, and educators who help books find their way into the hands and hearts of readers. Thank you, Little Shop of Stories, Labyrinth Books, Community Bookstore, McNally Jackson Books, Princeton Public Library, and Stonington Public Library for shepherding so many books into the hands and heart of this reader.

Betts and Jo’s friendship is, to me, the heart of this story. I am grateful to the friends, past and present, mentioned and unnamed, who have shaped who I am as a person and writer. Special acknowledgment is owed to Johanna Conterio Geisler, Andrew Garrison, Sulaiman Ijaz, Max Perelman, Abby Ranger (the original cupcake with thorns), Mike McCreless (who first called her that), Jessica Garrison, Rich Hinman, Margaret Meyers, Meg Blocker, Giles Lyon, Rebecca Tuhus-Dubrow, Sophie Danis Oberfield, Sarah Gersick, Katherine Connor Martin, Rachel Pilling, Rebekah Sirois, Sanders Weirs-Haggerty, Joe Metmowlee Garland, Lainie Fefferman, Jascha Narveson, Floor Bear, Owen Lake, Stephanie Su, Ellen Willett, Ellen Lin, Sarah Dodge, April Rourk, and Fatima Petersen.

Much love to my Rissi, Mrose, and Snyder families, especially my parents, Mama and Ati, who have encouraged creative risks in every chapter; my brother, Jeremy, who is in my tallest tales; my husband, Jeff, the best plot twist; our dog, Arugula, who has good ideas; Nono, the best storyteller; and Nini, who knew there would be books.
