'I can't bear to let you go, my darling,' he began, when she interrupted him. 'It won't be for long, Andrew. I don't want to be away from you and the children, but- -' She glanced pleadingly at him. 'I'll feel much happier without the scars.'

'Then it shall be as you wish, sweetheart, although I shall hate every moment you're away from me.' He held her very close and as the thought struck him he told her he had decided not to allow the children's grandmother to see them again. He had learned from Robbie how they disliked her and he did not see why they should be made unhappy by her visits. At his mention of Robbie she said again, 'You don't mind that we can't have children?'

He bent and kissed her, with infinite tenderness.

'Darling,' he said softly, 'we have two children-one of each kind. I don't really think we need any more, do you?' His voice was edged with tender humour that brought an instant smile to her lips. 'No,' she returned, shaking her head. 'I don't really think we need any more.'
