Kayne’s Fury: A Savage Saints MC Novel Page 3

by Lombard, J. Lynn

There on the marble countertop, Kayne left me a huge fluffy towel and some clothes. A pair of sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. I dry off with the towel and then wrap my long locks up in it. I cringe when I see my blood-soaked clothes and decide to forgo panties and bra. I slip the grey sweatpants on and have to roll them down a couple of times to make the length fit. I unwrap my hair and put the black sweatshirt on, his club logo, Savage Saints, is sprawled across the back and guilt swirls in my stomach from wearing his colors when mine are destroyed. I wipe the steam off the mirror and peer into it. The woman staring back at me looks like me, but at the same time, it isn’t. I’ve changed in the last couple of hours. I went from having my family, my club, everything at my fingertips, to nothing. Tears burn my hazel eyes and I blink them back. I don’t have time for a pity party right now. I have to stay strong and find out who killed my club and why and the only way to do that is with the man in the next room.

I can hear Kayne’s muffled voice talking to someone, but I can’t make out what he’s saying. The deep rumble in his tone as he barks out something sets a spark of hope in my chest, which is dangerous territory. I can’t hope for anything from him, I can only use him to get what I need and that’s answers to what happened. Then I can go off on my own and seek revenge on an enemy that destroyed everything.

I open the bathroom door and Kayne’s eyes snap to mine. He hangs up his phone and offers me a gentle smile.

“Thanks for the clothes.” I avert my eyes, looking everywhere but at him. Shame and guilt fill my mind. Shame for thinking the things I want to do with him and guilt for surviving when my family didn’t. I inhale a deep breath and hold back the tears threatening to fall again. I’m so sick of feeling weak and vulnerable. Kayne steps next to me and rests his hands on my shoulders, forcing me to look at him. The heat and lust radiating from his eyes send my body into overdrive, pissing me off.

“We need to talk. I need you to tell me what happened and what you remember, but not here. Can I take you back to my clubhouse?”

“Why would you do that? I’m enemy number one.”

“Because right now, enemies or not, you need help.” His eyes burn into mine, stealing my breath and my resolve.

“Fine, but someone is after me and I don’t know who or why. Once I find out, I’ll handle it on my own. I’m not dragging you into my mess.”

Kayne nods his head and his eyes turn from sympathy to cold in an instant. “We’ll see about that.” He releases my shoulders and I miss the warmth of his hands on my body. Jesus fucking Christ what the hell is wrong with me? I don’t want or need him, but I can’t help myself. It’s just from all the events that have happened. That’s got to be it, right?

Kayne is standing in front of his office door, his back to me, tall and rigid. Fuck, now I feel like shit for treating him that way when all he wants to do is help. I step next to him and splay my fingers over his cut, outlining the skull with my fingertips.

“Kayne?” He shifts his head so he’s staring at me over his shoulder. What I’m going to say next, I can’t say it while I look at him. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to hurt you, but if you knew me, you’d know I’m a danger to anyone who gets close. I’m not a safe choice.” I keep tracing the pattern on his cut and don’t look at him. I can’t.

“Poison,” the huskiness in his voice finally makes me look at him. I have to lift my head up to see into his face. His six-foot-six frame towers over my five-foot-eight and he turns around so we’re only a breath away. “I don’t care. It’s my choice if I want safe or not. So, don’t make that decision for me.” He leans towards me, taking all my air and rational thoughts with him. Kayne gently cups my face with his big hands and stares into my eyes, like he can see into my tainted soul. I want him to kiss me. I need him to kiss me. I need to feel his heat everywhere on me.

A loud knock on the door bursts the bubble we’re in and Kayne curses under his breath, resting his forehead against mine. We’re breathing in the same air and I want to kill whoever is interrupting us. The knocking continues until Kayne huffs out a breath and pulls away. Shivers rack my body missing his warmth around me. He yanks the door open and comes face to face with a giant. I’ve seen him around before but never spoke to him. He’s just as tall as Kayne but has muscle upon muscle that could crush a man without breaking a sweat. He has full sleeve tattoos up and down both arms and an intricate skull tattoo crawling its way up the side of his neck. His dark hair is cropped short against his head and his dark blue eyes are cold and deadly. He is wearing the Savage Saints cut. The left side has the Enforcer patch and the right side has his name, Stryker.

“What?” Kayne barks, schooling his features into the hard biker I’m used to.

“We’ve got a lead.” Stryker grunts, watching my reaction. There’s more he wants to say but keeps his mouth shut. I can see the accusations clear as day in his menacing glare. Kayne follows his stare and steps in front of me, shielding me from his scowl. His whole body is tense and he’s opening and closing his fists. I rest my hand on his back, tracing his cut and he relaxes slightly.

Kayne turns to me, still shielding me from Stryker’s deadly glare. “I’ll be right back.” He whispers into my ear sending shivers down my body. I nod in response.

He walks out the door, closing it behind him. I can’t hear what they’re saying and I hope it’s not about me. I don’t want or need to cause tension in his club. This is why I don’t get close to anyone. No matter what I’m feeling, I need to keep it locked up and thrown away. All I do is cause issues with men. Hence my name, Poison. I create havoc and destruction all around me, I poison even the best souls with my corrupted past. I can’t control it and have never been able to. The last man who loved me ended up in the bottom of Lake Michigan with no explanation as to the cause of his death when I was a teenager. Every man after that has never had the opportunity to get close. I’m cursed and can never break it.

  Kayne

“What the fuck is your problem, Stryker?” I’m on him the second I close my office door out of earshot of Poison. I’m beyond pissed at the way he was leering at her. My temper is about to blow and he better choose his words wisely or I will throttle him. He might have more muscle, but I’ve got years of pent-up rage behind me.

Stryker’s dark blue eyes are cold and his jaw is set, grinding his teeth together. “Something doesn’t add up.” He grits out.

“Then talk to me, not act like an asshole.” I rein in my fury and cross my arms over my chest, leaning up against the wall, waiting for him to tell me what they found.

“While you were in there,” he says pointing to my office, “I made some phone calls. The Deadly Sins clubhouse is burned down. According to my contacts, the house is full of dead bodies. Burned beyond recognition and the cops are looking for her. They presume she has something to do with it.”

  “And what do you think?”

Stryker paces back and forth down the narrow hallway. His massive frame taking up most of the space. “I think she knows more than she’ll say. Then I asked myself why is she the only survivor? How did she escape? If she doesn’t have something to do with it, then what do these people want? Why did they target her club? Who are they?”

“What’s your answers?” Stryker has a point, but he didn’t see her the way I did in there. He didn’t see Poison trying to hold it together, that at any moment reality will come crashing down around her and she’s going to lose her shit. He doesn’t know her secrets.

He continues pacing back and forth along the narrow hallway, he clenches his hands into fists. “The first thought that came to mind was, she set it up. She hired the hit to get her father out.” A rebuttal is on the tip of my tongue but I hold it back. “Then the second thought, after knowing who her father was, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and luck was on her side. But I don’t believe in luck, Kayne. So that leaves the former, she set it up.”

Red clouds my vision and the urge to punch
something or someone is overtaking all rational thoughts. There is no way Poison set this up and killed her whole club. That was her life, her whole family. Clenching my jaw instead of beating the shit out of my Enforcer, I speak through gritted teeth. “Trust me, Stryker, she has nothing to do with it. Keep digging, we’re missing something. I’m taking her back to the clubhouse and getting to the bottom of this.”

“Do you think that’s a good idea?” Stryker questions me.

I push off the wall and get right in his face. “Don’t ever fucking question my motives. There’s more to this story than we know, and I will get to the bottom of it. Do your job and protect Poison as if she’s one of our own.” Stryker narrows his eyes in my direction and a rebuttal is on the tip of his tongue, but he holds it in. Smart man.

“Now, I’m going back in there,” I point to my office, “getting Poison and we’re getting the fuck out of here. Keep these accusations to yourself until we figure out who’s behind this or you’ll answer to me. Are we clear?”

  “Crystal.”

  “Good.”

“Prez,” Stryker says before I open my office door.

  “Yeah?”

  “Watch your back.”

“That’s what I have you for.” I open the door and spot Poison sitting on my leather couch. She has a faraway look in her hazel eyes and didn’t even hear me come in. She has her arms wrapped around her body and rocking back and forth. Tears are welling in her eyes and she doesn’t blink. I motion for Stryker to look. He steps next to me in the doorway. “Does that look like someone who would do that to their family?” I ask quietly.

Stryker shakes his head and releases a deep sigh. “No, but something is off.”

“Then we’ll figure it out. But stop treating her like the enemy.” I know my words are contradicting everything, but looking at her right now, she isn’t the enemy. She needs help and that’s what we’re going to do.

“I’ll grab the Prospect to get the bikes ready.” Stryker concedes and leaves us alone.

I close the door and walk over to Poison. She’s still lost in her head as I sit down next to her, placing my arm around her shoulders. She leans into me and the tears she’s been holding back start to fall. I can feel them against my shirt as I rub her back soothingly. I let her cry for a few moments before I lift her head gently with my fingers.

“We’re going to my clubhouse. Will you be OK on the back of my bike?” Thinking about her sexy body wrapped around me, holding tight, stirs something deep inside me and I don’t question it right now. “If not, I’ll call one of the guys and have them bring the van.”

“I’ll be fine.” She gives me a tight smile and her watery gaze is on mine.

“We will protect you and figure out what’s going on.” She nods her head and more tears fall. I wipe them away gently with the pads of my thumbs, cupping her face. The sudden desire to kiss her washes over me, but I refrain. It’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do since I met her. Usually, we’re yelling and screaming at each other, but something’s changed. She isn’t looking at me like she hates me, her hazel eyes, even brimmed with tears, are mesmerizing and pulling me into their shadowy depth. I lean my forehead against hers, exhaling a long breath. “What are you doing to me?”

Poison doesn’t answer, but her breath hitches in her throat and she licks her lips. She leans into me, breaking our stare and wraps her arms around my waist, resting her head against the crook of my neck. My dick takes notice and twitches against the zipper of my jeans. I try to tamp it down, but it’s not working. Her tits are pressed against my chest and I tighten my arms around her, pulling her closer to me. This is going to be a hard ride to the clubhouse, in more ways than one.

After a few moments of this peace offering between enemies, Poison pulls away and stands up. She’s sexy as hell in my colors and I have the sudden urge to peel off each layer and taste the goods underneath. My eyes roam over her, loving the way she looks right now. Her face is makeup free, showing me her beauty underneath, her long blonde hair is still a little wet from her shower, hanging down her back, covering up my club logo on her hoodie and the sweatpants are rolled over a few times to fit her length. Her feet are bare, her deep red painted toenails are digging into the carpet.

“Are we going?” Poison asks, breaking my roaming eyes and a groan escapes my throat. She offers me a small smile and walks into the bathroom. A moment later she comes out with her bloody clothes wrapped up tight and a pair of riding boots in her hands. I stand up and take the bloody clothes from her and set them in a plastic bag. She puts her boots on and wraps her wet lock in a messy bun.

“Ready?” I’m nervous as hell for some reason and try to tamp it down. She’s just a girl, I keep chanting to myself over and over. A sexy as fuck girl, who I want wrapped around my dick, screaming my name in ecstasy as I plunge into her hard and fast.

Shaking my head of the thoughts my mind turned too, I open the door. The beat of the music drifts around us and I place my hand on the small of her back. I would have missed the shiver rolling across her if I wasn’t so in tune with her body. She leads the way toward the bar and I stop her.

“We’re going out the back,” I say against her ear and another shiver wracks her body. She wants me just as much as I want her. I guide her in the other direction, away from the bar and the patrons. We walk quietly down the narrow hallway, she’s staying right next to me, letting me touch her and it does something to my heart, making it beat hard against my chest. Something I haven’t experienced in a long time. I usually just fuck them and watch them go, never settling down with anyone. Nameless, faceless, sex. But with Poison, I don’t think that’s possible and until we figure out who attacked her club tonight, I have to remind myself to keep a distance between us. She will hurt me even if she doesn’t want too.

I open the back door, greeted by the summer night air. It calms my racing heart and cools my skin. Stryker and the Prospect, Duke, are waiting next to our Harley’s watching everything around us.

I turn to Poison before we reach them and place my hands on her shoulders. “Are you sure this is OK? I don’t have an issue calling one of the guys to bring the van.” I do have a big problem with it but if it helps keep her calm, I’ll do what she needs.

“I’ll be fine. Are you OK with this? I don’t want to put you in danger.” Her hazel eyes are watching me, waiting for me to throw her to the wolves.

“I’d rather have you on the back of my bike than with someone else.” Where the fuck did that come from? I just told myself to keep my distance, and here I am wanting her with me.

“Then let’s roll. I’d rather be with you than anyone else.” A slight blush touches her cheeks and my breath stutter’s in my chest. Pride swells deep within. It’s dangerous territory we’re walking into but right now, I don’t give a fuck.

We walk to my bike and I throw my leg over it, straddling the beauty beneath me. It’s a Harley Davidson Road King Special addition. She’s black with chrome extras shining under the street lamp. I place my brain bucket on my head and hand her the extra Stryker found. She puts it on and adjusts the straps. She looks sexy as fuck and I will my dick to go down. It’s hard driving with a stiff cock, literally.

I stand the bike up and nod my head for Poison to get on. She places her hand on my shoulder and fire races through my veins from her touch. She swings her leg over the seat and settles in behind me. Her arms are wrapped around my waist and her tits and pussy are pressed against my back. It’s one of the most intimate ways a man and woman can ride together and the heat from her body is traveling straight to my aching dick. I’ve never had a woman on the back of my bike, that seat is sacred and made for ‘the one.’ I pull the clutch and fire up my bike. The deep rumble clears my mind and I drop into first.

“Ready?” I ask over my shoulder.

Poison tightens her grip around my waist and her lips are right next to my ear. “Ready.” Her hot breath fans across me and lust drive through my body. Holy fuck. Th
is isn’t good. Not good at all.

I signal to Stryker and the Prospect that we’re going and they nod back, firing up their bikes. We take off down the alley and into the street. I’m scanning and watching everything around me, trying not to think about the sexy as fuck woman clinging to me. Trying to ignore the heat radiating off her body penetrating mine.

I’m in the lead, Stryker is at my nine and the Prospect is at my three. We fly down the road, passing cars left and right. Once we reach the outskirts of the city, I slow down. We’re almost to my clubhouse between the city of Mt. Pleasant and the small town of Shepherd when Poison’s grip tightens around my waist. I cover her hands with my free one and lean back a little, letting her know it’ll be fine and to have her pressed closer to me.

I turn right on a dirt road and ease up on the throttle, making my bike purr. We turn again down a long driveway and my clubhouse comes into view. The white two-story house has almost every light on, glowing in the dark. Several bikes are parked out front and I spot Blayde, Axel, Tex, Ace and Maddox all standing under the security lights, waiting for us. Blayde, my VP, has his arms crossed over his chest and a pissed off look on his face. I park my bike next to Blayde’s and turn it off, the cooling engine ticks, filling the silent night. Poison hasn’t let go of my waist yet and her whole body is trembling behind me. Wishing I could turn around and comfort her, I do the next best thing. I take off my helmet and hang it on the handlebars, then I reach for her shaking hands and secure them in mine, trying to bring warmth back to her and reassure her.
