Racing Back to Vietnam Page 22

by John Pendergrass

In spite of an opening night rocket attack, my first days at Da Nang went relatively smoothly, thanks in large part to Jim Rooks. Jim, the flight surgeon for the 390th TFS, rotated home a couple of weeks after I arrived. He set a high standard, both as a physician and an F-4 GIB, which made my transition much easier. I have enjoyed reestablishing contact with him after forty-five years.

I want to thank Sarah Atkinson for helping me prepare this manuscript for publication. She responded promptly to numerous deadlines and made my job a lot easier.

Once again, the professional team at Hatherleigh Press has helped guide me through the long process of writing and publishing this book. Andrew Flach, Ryan Tumambing, and Anna Krusinski assisted me at every turn. I am especially grateful for the work of my editor, Ryan Kennedy. His advice greatly improved this book.

Finally, I want to thank my wife Polly and my three children, John, Eric, and Patricia, for their love and support.
