Love Me Through the Rain Page 9

by A'zayler

If it was possible to fall in love within seconds, he’d be there. Her words were stimulation to his brain. The look on her face while she spoke was sincere. Her words were deep. His heart was falling hard for this chick.

“So tell me, am I getting wet? Or am I feeling the Rain?”

  “Which do you want?”

Love walked to her and stood in front of her. “I’m trying to feel you. I promise I am.” He bent down as far as he could without being uncomfortable so he could see her face. “Trust me with your secrets. Hide in my arms from your fears. Let me help you reach your goals, make your dreams a reality. I want it all Rain. I promise I do.”

She inhaled deeply. “Do you hear yourself Dakota?”

Love was shocked by his words too as he listened to the words coming out of his mouth. He’d never been the mushy type but her words had put him in his feelings.

Love chuckled in slight embarrassment. “I sound like a punk, right?”

“Of course not.” Her tone was firm. “I only said that, because you sound like a dream come true.”

“Do you always talk in riddles?”

  “I’m a writer Dakota. That’s what I do.”

He pulled her head backwards so he could look directly into her face.

“Can I trust you Rain?” His eyebrows scrunched together as he waited for her to respond.

He was praying she said yes. His instincts were telling him she could be trusted, but he needed to hear it out of her mouth. He’d trusted Tacara too easily and it backfired on him. He didn’t have time to make the same mistake twice. He didn’t know if he could handle it mentally. Tacara’s scandalous ways had messed him up; almost pushed him to the point of no return. It was a good thing he had Jacorey. That nigga had come through for him big time.

“With everything you have.” She wrapped her arms around his waist.

Again, her answer was simple yet so deep.

“How about we just stay here tonight?”

“I was going to suggest that.” She pulled away and turned to move her clothes and bag from the bed.

Love didn’t move so when she leaned over the bed and backed up to stand back up, she bumped right into him. Her butt rubbed across the top of his legs. Right where the head of his dick lay. It was stretched out along his leg and she was the perfect height to feel it. She tried to move to the side to avoid it, but his hand on her stomach stopped her. He pushed his hips forward at the same time he pulled her against him.

“Chill for a minute. You need to feel this dick. Your heart and feelings are going to be wrapped up in it soon.”

The soft giggle that escaped her lips caused him to harden a little more.

“If I feel you, you have to feel me too,” he whispered in her ear.

“I will when the time comes.” She walked out of his grasp and put her things back into her drawers before placing the bag back inside of her closet.

Love was about to ask why she went through all of the trouble putting everything away but decided not to. Her whole house was clean, not one thing looked out of place. It was clear she was a very neat person. He took a seat on the bed and laid back. His long body practically stretched from one side to the other. Exhaustion hadn’t hit him until he laid down. He hadn’t realized just how tired he was. Skipping his sleep today to get his hair done and hit up Connie’s party was taking a major toll on his body. Although his eyes were closed, he could tell the room had just gotten darker. When he opened them, Rain had cut some round floor lamp that sat in the corner on, and it was illuminating the room with a soft glow. The purple shade on it made the room appear to be various shades of lavender. It was an ugly lamp, and not something he would have picked up in a store, but in her room it fit effortlessly. Next to it was a small desk and the chair he’d been sitting in earlier. Now he could see the whole little set up was probably where she spent time writing. In the distance he could hear water running. I know she ain’t get in the shower that fast. Love wasted no time hopping from the bed and heading for her bathroom. The door was closed mostly with a crack small enough for him to peep in. Her back was to the door as she removed her shirt. She had already taken off her pants so now she was in nothing but panties and bra. Her body was crazy; so toned, and sculpted in the right places. He could tell just by looking at her that she was a regular at the gym. She stepped closer to her sink and began brushing her hair in a circle around her head. When she’d finished that, she wrapped her scarf around it and walked to her tub to cut the water off. Love was starting to feel like a real live punk. Here he was watching her, instead of bending her over the sink and fucking her until he bust. Normally he would have been in up her guts a few times by now, but surprisingly that wasn’t even what he wanted to do right now. Watching her move around so gracefully and carelessly was enjoyment enough.

“Come in Dakota, and stop peeping at me like some kind of stalker.”

  Busted!

He hadn’t even known she was watching him. He pushed the door all the way open and walked in. For the third time tonight he was caught off guard by her home. First the living room, then her bedroom, now the bathroom. The whole thing was painted sky blue minus the little room her toilet was in, and the wall where her shower head was. Both places were made to look like the wall was made from rocks. That shit was too cold. Rain’s style was winning major cool points with him.

“Your boy did the bathroom too?”

“Nah. I did this room myself. I wanted to feel like I’m taking a shower outside. I know that’s weird but I like it.” Rain fixed the large plant that sat on the shelf behind her tub. It fell over the tile giving the tub an outside feel. She definitely conquered that part.

“Yo this shit is fresh as fuck Rain.”

“Thanks. It’s a shower right there if you want to use it.”

Love shook his head no. Instead he began stripping from his clothes. When he was naked he got in her bubbly bath water. He sighed dramatically as he laid his head back against the side of the tub. The tip of his dreads sank into the water as well. When he opened his eyes, she was smiling down at him with her arms crossed over her breasts. He smiled at her and stretched his hand out for her to grab. She looked at him a few moments longer before removing her bra. Her full breasts bounced free. Love bit his bottom lip as he anticipated seeing her completely nude. He stroked himself beneath the water as he watched the thin black fabric slide down one leg, and then the other as she removed her panties.

  “Look at you Rain.”

  She blushed while fidgeting nervously.

  “Come get in with me.”

Rain was lifting her leg to get in when he caught a glimpse of something shimmering between her thighs. He grabbed her leg before she could put it in the water and held it in the air. He looked up at her before sticking his finger between her legs and touching the silver thing he’d saw. She looked a tad bit uncomfortable but she’d be alright. Love ran his hand over the small piece of metal.

“What made you get this?” Love picked up the small earring that was piercing the soft flesh he wanted so desperately to put his mouth on.

  “Summer.”

Love leaned forward slowly as if getting a closer look, but ran his tongue across the tiny diamond, making sure to circle her clit before pulling away. He heard her gasp at the same time he felt her body tense.

“I like it.” He let her leg go and she slid into the steamy water in a hurry.

She situated herself as best as she could between his legs and lay her head back against his chest. She was quiet for a while, not even really moving. He wanted so bad to ask her what she was thinking but he didn’t. He’d done enough talking for the night. It was her turn. She had been answering his questions, but seemingly didn’t have any of her own. He had one arm wrapped around her stomach while the other was hanging over the side of the tub.

“I was seventeen when I first fell in love with Rashad. Even though he was older than me by eight years, we still clicked. We used to do everything
together. At first I thought he was too good to be true because our love was just that tight. As time went on things began to change. We would argue, he would leave and I wouldn’t see him for days and sometimes weeks at a time. I always thought that was weird but I thought that’s how older men acted.” Rain played with the bubbles in front of her as Love listened to the story she was telling. “He would get mad about me hanging with friends my age, or if he saw other boys’ numbers in my phone, or leaving comments on my Facebook wall or something small like that. Then I wouldn’t see him for a while. Once I figured out what was going on I pretty much cut off all ties with any friends my age. I loved him and wanted to make him happy. Of course he still found reasons to get mad and leave. This went on pretty much our whole relationship.”

Rain paused and looked over her shoulder at Love.

“I’m listening.” His voice was deep and low.

“Well by year four, I’d just turned twenty one and was feeling myself. Things got a little rocky around my birthday because I wanted to party with my friends. We took a break for about two months but just like all the other times, we picked right back up. We spent the entire summer together. He’d even proposed to me. I remember it just like it was yesterday. I was wedding dress shopping and his friend Tee called me. He told me Rashad had been killed. He didn’t go into detail over the phone. He came to my house the same night and explained everything to me. I thought I would die.” Rain shook her head. “He had a wife and kids. That was the worst pain I’d ever felt. My parents and Summer did everything they could to cheer me up but nothing helped. I quit my bartending job, finished school, and moved here for a fresh start. I don’t talk about it. Neither do Summer or my parents. It’s too embarrassing.” Rain shifted some and he held her tighter.

“How long has it been since he died?”

  “Three years.”

“Did you still love him after all of that?

“For a while I did, but now I just hate him. He lied to me, played me like a fool and I didn’t even know it.”

Love waited to ask his next question. It was stuck in his throat because he wasn’t sure he wanted to know the answer. Evidentially he was quiet for too long because she sat up and turned to look at him.

  “Say something,”

“Is your heart still with him?”

Rain looked down at the water and tucked her top lip between her teeth.

  Damn. I knew it.

She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head no at the same time. “I don’t know where my heart is.” Her voice was just as low as her eyes were.

Albeit this wasn’t what he wanted to hear, it was better than her flat out admitting she was still in love with a dead nigga. That was some hard shit to compete with. Sympathy and grief had the tendency to make a person act and think irrationally. She and Love were both quiet the rest of their bath. He could tell by her body movement and the quick glances she kept stealing that she felt a little guilty about her admission. Oh well. He wasn’t sure how he felt either, so they were equal. They finished their bath and went back into her bedroom. While she got dressed he ran outside and grabbed his gym bag from his truck. He had clean gym shorts, boxers, and another shirt inside. She was dressed in a silk nightgown that stopped mid-thigh when he came in. She flipped her lamp off once he finished dressing and slid beneath her covers. Love slid in behind her and snuggled as close as he could to her. They were asleep within minutes.

  Chapter 8: Summer…Summer Time

Music was blasting from the speakers as Summer moved around the kitchen preparing breakfast. Alex, Rain, Love, and Jacorey were all on their way over. She’d invited them all over to her house to eat before they went to the park. Jacorey’s record label was sponsoring a program about safety for the community today. Love and his fellow firefighters, the police, and other companies would be there to support. When her school had first asked her to run the booth she declined but after finding out Jacorey was going to be there she agreed. He and her had only chilled a few times since the party at Connie’s house, but they talked every day. She was really starting to like him. He’d told her after the event tonight he wanted to take her out for dinner. She was excited because he really was a cool dude. She’d just turned her pot of grits off when she heard a hard knock at her door. She checked the peep hole and saw Rain.

“Why you ain’t use your key?” she asked Rain as soon as she opened the door.

  “Because it’s for emergencies.”

“Girl you need to stop your mess. Come set the table for me.” Summer walked back into the kitchen.

Rain was right behind her grabbing dishes from the cabinet. She walked over to the table and began setting things out.

“Why Alex ain’t come with you?’

“He said he was waiting on Troy to get there.”

Troy was Alex’s on-again, off-again boyfriend. He was openly gay, which they all appreciated. He was a nurse and was crazy about Alex. The only thing that always got in the way of their perfect relationship was Alex’s attitude. He treated Troy any kind of way sometimes. Summer and Rain both had told him about himself a few times but he still ended up acting a fool with the poor boy. Alex’s problem was that he was used to street niggas, and Troy was everything but that. Hopefully today would be a good day. Summer wasn’t in the mood for their shenanigans.

“Oh okay. They better act like they got some sense. What you think Love and Jacorey gon’ say about them being here?” Summer passed Rain the roll of paper towels.

“I don’t know and I don’t care. All I know is all four of these niggas better act like grown men or I’m slapping all of ‘em’”

  Summer laughed at Rain.

“So what’s been up with you and my boy Love? He still acting funny about Rashad?”

“Kind of. He keeps saying he’s cool but I know he’s lying. I told that nigga that junk almost a week ago and he’s still acting a li’l funny. I mean I don’t know what he wanted me to say. You know I don’t like to lie.”

“Just give him some time. He’ll be alright. Men are just a little more guarded when it comes to opening up their heart than women are. He’s feeling you; I can tell. Every time he sees you his whole face lights up. He be trying to hide it but I can see it all over him.”

“I know. I can too. He’s always touching or rubbing on me. It’s like if he’s near me, we have to be touching. His hand be on my back, my elbow, my leg, or something. It’s sooooooo cute!” Rain squealed as she flopped down on the long bench to Summer’s table.

“I’m so happy for you Rain. I just love how happy he makes you. Hell, I think I’m jealous. It ain’t even been a whole month yet and y’all already look in love.” Summer took the bacon of the stove. “Oh my bad; y’all are in love already, right?” Summer laughed.

Rain and Love both still got embarrassed when she brought up them saying I love you their first time meeting each other. She had no idea how being that they were still kicking it, so obviously the chemistry was there. It was cute to her. Even though Love was her age, she felt like his big sister too. Maybe it was because he was dating her younger sister, or because he treated her as such. He was always calling her for advice on the simplest stuff, whether it was something involving Rain or something as small as what kind of seasoning to put on his chicken.

“Don’t be funny bitch. You know we was drunk. I could say the same thing about your infatuated ass. All I have to do is say that nigga Jacorey name and you’re smiling like crazy.”

  “Girl please.”

Rain walked into the kitchen. “Jacorey.”

Summer rolled her eyes, but just as Rain had said, she was smiling.

“Um-huh. Just like I thought,” Rain teased.

“I’ma just see what he talking about, then I’ll go from there. I am not about to get my hopes up just yet.”

“If he’s anything like his friend, then you need to get them hopes up right now, and keep them up. You know what, get them so high you have to jump and grab th
em.”

Summer laughed at her sister’s silliness. Rain was playing but she knew she was serious. Love had her wide open. It was cute though. She deserved it. After the stunt that bastard Rashad pulled Rain had been a broken mess. Recuperation took a while but she was finally in a good place and Summer wanted her to stay there.

“Love got you feeling like that?”

“That and some. And it’s so funny because it hasn’t even been that long. That nigga just do something to me. I don’t even think I was feeling Rashad like this. I mean, I loved him, but it took me a minute to get there. With Dakota emotions just flow out of me.” Rain nodded her head and smiled. “Yep, that’s bae right there with his sexy black ass.”

“He look so thugged out I would be scared to say anything around him. Then those eyes. It doesn’t feel like he’s looking through you when y’all looking at each other?” Summer really wanted to know because every time she talked to him she felt that way.

“He looks like a thug, but I don’t think he’s one. I mean I can tell he wouldn’t mind getting his hands dirty but I don’t think it’s something he does on the regular. As far as his eyes are concerned, I can’t really say because whenever he looks at me, his gaze is so intense it feels like he can see straight to my soul. Even if his eyes were darker I don’t think it would matter.”

Summer grabbed her chest with both hands while her mouth dropped in the shape of an O.

“Awww Rain. That is just too sweet for words. That’s the kind of Love you deserve boo. I cant wait until they get here so I can watch him look at you.”

“Man Summer I can’t deal with you right now.”

“I’m for real sissy. Do you think you’re over Rashad enough to give him a fair chance?”

Summer watched Rain drop her head and play with the hem of her shorts. She didn’t say anything; she just shrugged her shoulders.

“Rain you have to let that go. Don’t hinder your new happiness because of that idiot. God bless the dead,” Summer said before turning around to finish breakfast.
