[Sign Behind the Crime 01.0] Gemini Page 41

by Ronnie Allen

The opening. The strategy to weaken her. “Sex. The sex is beyond great. Wanna know how many times we do it? Two to three times a day and he makes me come a couple of times each. And, now that I’m pregnant, it’ll be--oh my goodness, I won’t be able to describe it. How often does your husband wrap his arms around you and make passionate love to you? Like you’re the only woman in the world?”

  ***

“Vicki’s trying to distract her,” Mark said.

“Talking sex? That should do it,” John said. “That woman feels nothing.”

  Mark sneered at him.

“It came out in the therapy. Your men are in position. I’m going in.”

  ***

“How often, Barbara? You look like one cold potato to me.”

“Shut up!” Barbara’s hands trembled. The gun rattled in her grip.

“Don’t like to talk about sex, huh?”

  “Shut up!”

“John and I love to talk sex. We’ve been doing it over the phone and Skype the past three weeks.”

Barbara turned toward Vicki. Her face had reddened. She held firmly onto Ricky, who obeyed Vicki’s hand signals to remain still. That was what Vicki wanted. To get Barbara not to focus on the door, so John could get her from behind. Or the team.

Barbara was so bent on her revenge to shoot Vicki and Ricky in front of John that she didn’t waiver. Vicki counted on that.

“When he comes down on me, it’s so amazing. His tongue brings out the nectars of the gods. I quiver and moan and my entire body floats. And John, he just loves the feel of my body riveting underneath him. Ooh.” She shook her body as if she was going through it now.

Barbara bent down to hit Vicki in the head with the gun. Vicki pulled off her wig with her left hand, to divert her, and then defended with her right arm, pushing Barbara’s arm away. Then she kicked Barbara in the shoulder so hard the she fell to the left side of the door. The sniper still had no shot. Ricky toppled right on top of Barbara, with his head blocking Barbara’s face.

At that moment, John swung open the door, too fast. He miscalculated. He bellowed, not looking in Barbara’s direction. “Kellie, drop the gun!”

With Ricky in her arms on top of her, he was a body shield. Barbara moved her head and shot John without hesitation in his right shoulder, as he turned toward her. He collapsed backward onto the floor. Vicki, even though she was scared stiff about John, retrieved her weapon from a side table.

The men heard the shot, and the kid sniper bust into the lanai. Mark’s team dashed up the path to the house.

Barbara, still on the floor, struggled to hold onto Ricky. The front door was pushed closed in their struggle and Barbara was confined against it. Vicki mouthed “Now” to Ricky and he began to fight Barbara. Her gun, still held in her firm grip, was hot against his face. He kicked Barbara hard in her legs, as he tried to move his face out of the way. Ricky was too erratic in his movements for the sniper to take the shot, even though it was at a closer than normal range. The team outside couldn’t open the door.

  “Ricky, move to the left!”

He used all of his strength to fight Barbara and rolled off her to the left.

Vicki fired once, hitting Barbara between the eyes. She wasn’t even proud of herself. It was at very close range.

Vicki and Ricky ran to John, as the sniper stormed in and pushed Barbara’s limp body to the side to open the door for Mark’s team. Vicki handed her gun to Mark. She collapsed on John’s chest with tears streaming down her face. She wrapped her arms around him and ran her fingers though his hair. He struggled to raise his right arm to touch her but he couldn’t.

John’s voice was barely audible as he whispered in Vicki’s ear, “Don’t you ever leave me again, babe.”
