“The others in the coven?” Haven whispered.

“All dead. They walked behind each other, and we picked them off one at a time. They never knew we were there. They seemed surprised. They’re kind of stupid.”

Haven snorted, hugging him tighter. Shifters were all around talking, laughing, as if she hadn’t just killed another person. This felt strange to her, but she never wanted to hurt anyone, but from now on, she would protect her family. All of them. She wouldn’t let anyone lead her astray again.

  Chapter Twenty-Three

“You know. I didn’t even get to use my magic. I wanted to see what the old man had in him,” Scarlett said, sticking her feet out wiggling her toes. Haven shook her head. It didn’t matter they were at the mating ceremony of Lennox and Jade. Every shifter in town showed up and all decked out in their best clothes. Scarlett was a free spirit. And to prove her point, the woman wasn’t wearing shoes.

Haven glanced behind her. The yard was packed with shifters. But since Lennox was her brother, she would sit in the front row. This way she could see it all including her mate. The man looked good too. His black suit fit him perfectly. He looked like a model. He had cut his hair and for two days she ran her hands through it. He made her breathless.

For the past couple of days, she had the best time. She had helped the girls decorate Quinn and Arden’s backyard for the wedding. They had placed almost a thousand twinkling lights in the trees. She had to admit, it looked magical.

Cosmo would perform the ceremony. Tears fell from his face when Lennox asked him to preside. Usually, an alpha would officiate, but Lennox said Cosmo was an alpha and his best friend and that was how it was going to be.

She smiled at Scarlett. “I’m sorry.” She had no clue what to say to her.

  “Oh well, maybe next time.”

“Oh gosh, I pray there is never a next time.”

Scarlett leaned toward her. “Well, hun, with an alpha on every corner of this small town, there is bound to be trouble.”

Scarlett was probably right, but whatever happened, she had a family that loved her and had her back.
