Petey looked at Jolene and Wil. He licked some frosting from his lips. “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you Hunter and the best mechanic in the tri-state area. Wilber, you can now kiss your mechanic.”
“Petey!” shouted Father Walker.
Petey stuck out his tongue, which was tinged green from the frosting. “I beat you to it! They’re married!”
Wil laughed and kissed her ear. “I love you. Merry Christmas, wife.”
“I love you too. And this is the best Christmas ever.”
“Good thing, since it also happens to now be our wedding day,” said Wil with a wide smile.
The doorbell rang, and Penelope opened it to show Marty standing there, holding flowers. Penelope licked her lips and glanced back at everyone. “I invited Marty.”
“Good girl saving your grandpa time,” said Wil, making a move to go at the man.
Jolene pointed at her husband. “Wilber.”
He cringed. “You’re using my full name. You’re not pleased.”
Hugh leaned and put the back of his hand near his mouth, pretending to whisper. “Hug her. Does the trick for me with Penelope every time.”
“Did I miss something?” asked Marty, entering the house.
“Jo and I are husband and wife,” said Wil, sounding a lot more like Petey than himself.
Petey licked his fingertips. “Want a cupcake? They’re delicious?”

Now Missi just has to keep Mr. Flashy alive long enough to get him back up north where he belongs before her words come back to haunt him. There is only one slight hiccup with her plan: every second she tries to keep mishap from befalling Curt leaves her one step closer to wanting him to stay.
