The show was over, and everyone was making their way to the exits. Aurora knew that Anthony was waiting outside for them. They were still in their seats. Aurora got her phone out and she stared at it for a moment as she considered the right message to send.
“Can we hang out?” Aurora regretted sending the message. She had tried to think of the perfect message. She wanted it to sound casual, and relaxed, but this didn’t sound like something she would text. She felt like the message was going to tip Lance off to the purpose of her message.
“Anthony probably gave him a heads up”, Aurora said this mainly to herself, but Sheila agreed with her. That was a bad feeling. She didn’t want to be right. She wanted to know that Lance’s response came from the heart.
“I’m out of town”, the message came back. “I’m a little busy, text later”. This message quickly followed the first.
“He told you the truth”. Sheila sounded hopeful, and she was trying to seem supportive, but she could tell it wasn’t working. “Okay, what should I say?”
“He told the truth, but he is away on business, and I know how his business trips work”, Aurora said as she remembered her amazing trip into a mountain paradise. It was somewhat tainted by the thoughts of whatever business was going on, on this business trip.
“How can you ever be happy with a man you don’t trust?” Sheila’s word hit hard. Aurora didn’t like how they tasted in her mouth.
Standing up, Aurora walked out of the theatre without saying another word. Sheila was trying her best to keep her mouth shut. It was hard to do anything when her every action was being taken as a slap to the face. Sheila thought that she was right, but she didn’t want to gloat. This was not something that she liked being right about. Sheila could see the pain it was causing her friend. “I just hate to see you in pain”.
“I get it”, Aurora sighed. “You were right, and there’s nothing wrong with you feeling good about that…”
“Believe me when I say that it doesn’t feel good”, Sheila tried to reassure Aurora, but there was no reaching her. Aurora was lost in her own little world.
Her mother had called it an emotional tailspin. “You get a thought into your head, and you don’t know if it’s true, but it circles around in your mind until…boom! It takes hold of you”. Her mother’s words were coming to Aurora as she tried to pull herself out of the tailspin.
“I know you’re somewhere else right now”, Sheila said. Her voice sounded different and Aurora turned to see that her friends was getting out of the limo. They were at her building. Aurora was barely aware that they had driven anywhere. How long had she been staring off into nowhere?
“I just want you to remember that nothing has happened to you tonight, and this is how you feel”. Sheila’s face looked concerned and caring. Aurora thought of her as the big sister she had never had, and this talk felt like a very sisterly moment to Aurora. “This is not healthy. This man has a hold on you, and you need to turn back before you really get hurt. No matter what has happened tonight, you likely should just walk away”.
Sheila kissed Aurora on the forehead and then turned and walked into the building. Aurora watched her get inside and then she closed the door. Anthony started to drive the limo, and Aurora let her body slide back into the deep, leather seats.
I should just walk away, she thought as the big car crawled through the busy streets. Aurora made the decision right then and there. She turned her phone off, Lance had texted twice since they got in the car, and Aurora wasn’t even going to check the messages. She had noticed that one was an address, and the other said, “1 hour”, but that was just because it came up as a notification. She was just done. She wasn’t going anywhere with Lance.
It was the right call, as far as she was concerned. Aurora knew that she couldn’t take the pain of a real breakup, or really catching Lance cheating. She knew that she couldn’t handle being the other woman. She didn’t know if it was emotional maturity, or immaturity, but she needed more than a secret boyfriend.
“What are you doing?” Aurora put the partition down and yelled at Anthony. She was tired of his crap. She didn’t have to be nice to him anymore. “Stop the car!” Aurora watched her building fading into the distance.
“We have another stop to make”, Anthony said.
“I’m not going anywhere, but home”. Aurora sat back in the seat and folded her arms. As soon as she did it Aurora realized that the move had made her look like a petulant toddler. She caught Anthony smirking in the rear-view mirror. “Whatever, I’m still not going”.
“Well, you’re not my boss, and that’s where my boss wants me to be, so that’s where this limo is going”. Anthony closed the partition from his side.
Aurora unfolded her arms and watched the city as they passed through the streets. At every stoplight, she considered getting out and walking, but then Anthony would start moving again, and Aurora would sit back in the seat.
“I thought he was away on business?” Aurora loved how annoyed Anthony was as she put the partition back down.
“He’s in Colorado all week”, Anthony said as his eyes made contact through the rear-view mirror. “He’s negotiating with shareholders to get a bigger holding in the company. You know how it is with Lance and Trevor, they’re always competing”.
Aurora had seen the competition firsthand and she knew that Trevor was pushing to take the company. Lance had talked about it on several occasions. “So, Trevor is buying up stock”.
“The guy can’t get the board to vote for him taking over as chairman, so he’s going about it a whole different way”. Anthony explained things like he knew all about the world of high finance. Aurora herself was really only aware of the hard numbers. The political nature of stock companies was an entirely different animal.
“And Lance is busy trying to stop him”, Aurora realized that she was interfering with that. He was trying to save his job, and she was being a terrible girlfriend, secret girlfriend. Is there such thing as a terrible mistress? Aurora wondered to herself.
“He’ll fly back there tonight, I’m sure”.
“He’s flying in?” Aurora was surprised to hear this. She thought she was going somewhere to be given a present or something. Really, she wasn’t even sure what she thought. It was weird to think that someone would fly all the way across the country for her.
“He wouldn’t do this for his wife”, Anthony laughed.
Aurora could actually see the realization in Anthony’s eyes as he heard what he said and realized how it sounded. Anthony started blubbering and searching for the words to undo the damage.
“I mean he would’ve, but there was…I don’t know…It was something she did”, Anthony looked like he was about to have a stroke. Aurora would’ve stepped in and tried to calm most people down, but she genuinely didn’t like Anthony and that made it much easier to just sit back and enjoy this moment. “He loved her, and she betrayed him”.
“What did she do?” Aurora asked. Anthony looked like a deer in the headlights. “I mean for you to use the word ‘betray’ it sounds like it must’ve been pretty bad. He loved her, and then it was just all over after this one thing. What did she do?”
“Trevor”.
The car stopped and Aurora got out onto the sidewalk. She looked up at the building and turned to ask Anthony where to go, but he was already pulling away. Aurora walked into the building.
“Are you Aurora?” The security guard said as the young woman walked into the lobby. “You need to head up to the roof. Mr. Macauley will be here shortly”.
Chapter 10
“How do you get takeout all the way up here before you even arrive?” Aurora asked as they sat down to their dinner on the roof of the building.
“I called from the chopper”, Lance bragged and even added a little head wag. “The real trick is find a security guard who knows how to set the table so that nothing blows away when the helicopter lands”. Lance took the paper weight off the stack of napkins and offere
d one to Aurora.
Aurora took napkin and sat down in the chair that Lance pulled out for her. She felt silly for spending the whole night obsessing over what Lance was doing. She tried to talk about it, but she was embarrassed.
“I noticed that I couldn’t call you from the helicopter”, Lance said knowingly. “Were you a little upset with me?”
“Why didn’t you tell me you were going out of town?” Aurora tried to keep her tone under control. She didn’t want to seem like she was still mad. She was trying to put it all behind her, but this one point was still bothering her.
“It was a last-minute thing”, Lance explained. He could see by Aurora’s face that the answer wasn’t good enough. “I got a tip about Trevor’s plan to buy up shares. There is a company out in Colorado that is looking to sell their shares, but we have to invest heavily in their company. Trevor was making promises, so I headed out there to talk to them directly”.
“How’s it going?” Aurora asked trying to change the subject.
“It’s going great”, Lance joked. “If you consider being held over a barrel and rammed up the ass to be great”.
“Depends on who’s doing the ramming”, Aurora said slyly. She couldn’t believe that she had said it, but Lance brought this out in her. There was an animalistic side to Aurora that she hadn’t been aware of before meeting Lance.
“Well, it’s a bunch of grumpy, old, fat, bald men in Colorado”, Lance sighed. He seemed tired. “Sorry, it’s been a long day”. Lance put his head in his hands and stared down at the plate for a minute.
“I’m so sorry, I just made you fly across the country and now I’m expecting you to keep up a conversation…” a finger on the lips stopped Aurora’s apologetic tirade. Lance let his finger linger for a moment and then he pulled it back.
“My day has been exhausting, but you are a delight”. Lance took in a deep breath of the refreshing fall air. “No more talk about work. Let’s just eat and pretend for one night that the company doesn’t exist”.
Lance seemed to be feeling better as soon as he said the words. It was clear that he was getting fed up with the politics. He had seemed fine until the subject was brought up, and then talking about the company had nearly crippled him. Aurora noticed it again when she talked about work. The mention of his building seemed to put Lance into physical distress.
They went down after they finished eating and Lance gave his lady a tour of the penthouse suite. “I have it listed as an office, but that is only this section near the elevator. Round, wooden walls curved in and met behind a small desk. Lance walked to a door right behind the desk. He pushed open the door and a beautifully furnished living room appeared.
“This is amazing”, Aurora gushed as she was led to the couch.
Lance went to the bar and made two drinks. “Scotch on the rocks”, Lance offered. He passed the drink before Aurora could respond. She took a sip. “I have no skills as a bartender, and I only really drink scotch on the rocks anyway”.
All Aurora could do was nod. Her face was locked in position after taking the poison into her mouth. “I like wine, or champagne”, Aurora said as her tongue moved awkwardly through her mouth. She looked around for a kitchen, or somewhere to get a drink.
“You’ll get used to it”, Lance teased as he took another sip of his drink. He set the drink down on the glass, coffee table in front of them.
Aurora looked around the room. Everything in the room, looked like it cost more than her rent. It was all modern and cold, and it reminded her of a club, or a party scene from a movie. She had never actually been in a room this nice.
Aurora turned back to see that Lance was moving toward her. His hand grabbed the back of her neck, and Aurora was pulled into a passionate kiss. She let her hands move freely across Lance’s silk shirt, and down the front of his pants. Aurora’s heart started to race as she felt the bulge behind the zipper jump at her touch.
Lance lunged, but Aurora pushed him back. She felt emboldened and powerful as she saw the look of concern on Lance’s face. A sly smile appeared on the young woman’s full, pouty lips. She stood up and looked down at her man. “Undress me”. Aurora could hear the power in her voice.
Lance smiled as he looked for the zipper to the dress. He was tall enough that he didn’t have to stand up to unzip the dress and guide it to the floor. With one hand, Lance deftly removed her bra. He buried his face in the c-cup breasts in front of him, and pulled the panties down to the floor.
Aurora grabbed a handful of the short, well-groomed hair. She guided Lance’s head down. With one leg up on the couch, Aurora pushed Lance’s face between her thighs. The light stubble sent butterflies fluttering through her stomach as the tiny, thick hairs grazed her upper thighs.
The long, gentle strokes sent shivers through her body, and Aurora’s hands gripped tightly on Lance’s head. The shivers forced her to sit on the arm of the couch. Lance’s tongue was working its magic so well that she didn’t realize that he had spun her around, until he stood up and thrust himself inside.
When did he take his pants off? Aurora wondered as she sat on the arm of the couch and rocked her hips. She could feel the orgasm building, but she wanted to be in control this time. She pushed Lance back and hopped off the couch.
She moved over to him seductively, and motioned for him to get on the floor. Lance laid down on the floor and Aurora climbed on top of him. She had very rarely been the one on top, but it felt good. It hit her just right.
Aurora started to ride Lance. She could feel his hands massaging her breasts and tweaking the now hard nipples. He had started very gently, but his fingers moved firmer as Aurora’s movements started to get wilder, and more frantic. She could feel the pressure building inside of her. She could feel Lance’s member starting to throb.
Lance felt so good inside of her. She never wanted it to end. They just moved so well together. Lance was always reading off of her sounds and movements. She would move, and he would push back in just the right way. He was grinding back as she rocked her hips on top of him.
“Yes”, Aurora just breathed the word, Lance started to move faster. The normally reserved woman liked being on top. She opened her eyes for just a second and looked out the floor to ceiling windows that looked out over the city. She had mounted Lance on top of the world.
Seeing their reflections in the glass turned Aurora on. She knew that she was young and skinny, but tonight she felt truly beautiful. Her delicate body rolling back against the hard, chiseled muscles of Lance’s body.
Aurora took one last look, and then she closed her eyes and threw her head back. She could feel it washing over her. Lance grunted and pulled Aurora down onto his chest. They laid on the floor for a while. The cool tiles felt nice against Aurora’s hot flesh.
When she tried to get up, Lance stood up and carried her into the bedroom. They made love tenderly in the bed. Looking into each other’s eyes, Lance took long, slow strokes in and out. Aurora loved to feel the whole length of Lance on each stroke. They didn’t get dressed until the phone rang.
“Are you kidding me?” Lance screamed into the cell. He was turning colors as he listened to the person on the other end. Aurora decided to get dressed, but Lance gently knocked the clothes out of her hand, and pointed back to the bed.
Aurora thought a fifth time sounded ambitious, but she was willing to give it a shot. Lance got off the phone and flung himself backwards onto the bed. Aurora swung a leg over him and kissed Lance’s full lips.
“I have to go back to Colorado”, Lance groaned.
“Now?”
“Now”, Lance said as he let his hands fall over his face.
“Okay”, Aurora said as she got off the bed. She started looking around for her clothes. Lance got off the bed and then looked at the young woman.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m getting ready to go”, Aurora said as though the answer should’ve been obvious. She went back to looking for her clothes.
“
Get back in bed”, Lance laughed as he guided Aurora back to the bed. “It’s 3 in the morning. Get some sleep and don’t worry about locking up in the morning. Just leave and I will send Ralph up to take care of it”.
Aurora went back to bed and Lance kissed her on the head as he ran out of the room. The place was strange and cold, but Aurora was tired enough that it didn’t matter. She was asleep in seconds.

“AHHHHHH!” Aurora screamed as she opened her eyes to see a woman standing in the room beside the bed.
“So, you’re the new girl?” The words seemed like a judgement, but Aurora’s heart was racing, and she was having trouble dealing with the whole situation. “What lines did he feed you?”
“Are you the cleaning lady?” Aurora wondered, she assumed that this woman wasn’t Ralph. Then an awful thought struck her, “Oh my God, you’re his wife! I’m so sorry…”
“I’m not his wife!” The woman screamed. “I was the last you. The one that came before the new you. This was all mine”.
Aurora didn’t know how to respond. The woman was only a little older than Aurora, and they looked like twins. Blonde hair, blue eyes, c-cup breasts, and full lips, except this woman looked strung out. It wasn’t drugs though. Aurora recognized this look, this pain, the pain she had felt the night before when she believed that there was another woman in Colorado.
Lance clearly had a type that much was clear. Aurora got out of the bed wrapped in a blanket and found her clothes. The whole time the other woman was standing in the room staring angrily. “I’m going to call security”, Aurora said after asking the woman to leave.
“You’re going to call security on me?” The woman was outraged. “I am you, welcome to your future!” Aurora could see the woman’s anger frothing and shaking inside of her. “Tell Lance Rita says hi!”
