He placed her on their couch and Win came up to take off her boots, while South got her a blanket. Win took the glasses off her head, and then sat in the chair in front of her. “I’m in big fucking trouble,” he told his friend, rubbing his hands over his face.

South grabbed a beer from the fridge and stepped out next to Win, watching her sleep. “Yeah? Well, that makes two of us,” South growled, and took a swig of his beer before he glanced over at Win. “I found out tonight why it seems like we don’t see her for days on end.”

Win rubbed his hand through his hair, getting up and getting himself a beer as well. “Why’s that?” he asked from the kitchen.

  “Because she’s not a nurse, dipshit, she’s a doctor.”

“The fuck you say.” He came out, looking at the little woman on the sofa.

“I’m telling you. She told me she has a twenty-hour shift tomorrow. And that she wants to practice general surgery. This is one smart chick.”

Win looked over at him. “She just told you that?”

“I just asked her. She worked out a deal to sing with her band here and work at the hospital. And she would’ve told you all this too if you hadn’t had her strung up against the fucking van like you were at some S&M club! Really, what the hell were you thinking?” South whispered harshly, not wanting to wake up Addison.

Win sat back down and put his hands on his head, tapping the beer bottle to his forehead. “I went out to go get her and…she moaned. I can’t even describe it! But all I thought was, it wasn’t me making her make that sound, and I lost it.

“When I saw the fucker on top of her, I just reached in there, snagging his ass, wanting to beat the shit out of him right there.” He looked at South and then back at Ad. “I insulted her, and she called me a man-whore, and said she wasn’t interested in that type of guy.

“I made out with Candy and Lisa thinking she’d be all jealous of the girls that hang off me. Show her I could get any chick I wanted, make her want me more. But the way she talked to me about it, I knew right then it was a major fuckup for me tonight. It didn’t make her jealous; it made her not interested.

“But the worst part of this whole fucking night is, after I saw how she was treated before, saw the black eye and the broken wrist, I treated her like an ass! She went all submissive on me to calm me down… I scared her… I fucking scared her! She thought I was going to hurt her. I could see it in her eyes, South! And you know I would never hurt a woman!”

South stood next to the couch, drinking the last of his beer. “Fuck, man, I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe she isn’t right for you. And as much as I love you like a brother, I want her, and I’m not willing to let you have her. She seemed interested in me, we talked easily together. And after you left her crying, she had no problem clinging to me for comfort.”

Win stood up and went to the door. Maybe South was right, maybe he was no good for her. He’d never acted this way with a woman before. He just couldn’t stay in the same place with her without wanting to be next to her, so he’d head over to Andy and Rex’s and crash for the night.

He walked into their apartment, kicking all their shit off the couch and making himself as comfortable as he could. A couple of hours later Rex came in with some chick. “Dude, what the hell are you doing over here?” he asked, and the chick next to him smiled at Win.

“I’m crashing, what the hell does it look like. Don’t worry, I didn’t beat the shit out of South, just needed to get away from him,” he told him, then thought about the redhead he liked. “Why aren’t you coming home with Margie?” he asked, closing his eyes. Rex took his chick and started towards his room. “Don’t want to talk about it, man.”

South sat in the chair in front of the TV, wondering if he should take Addison to his bed to rest or just leave her on the couch. But the couch was old and funky. He didn’t want her to sleep shitty and then go to work all jacked up. He had no idea what it would be like to work a twenty-hour shift, and he didn’t want to know. So he put his bottle in the sink and picked her up, went to his bedroom, pulled the covers back and laid her on his bed.

He pulled the covers over her and she made herself comfortable without so much as opening an eye. He pulled off his clothing, just keeping on his boxers, and crawled into his bed but let the sheet keep them separated.

He lay there for a minute watching her sleep, thinking he was one lucky bastard to have her sleeping in his bed, kissed her forehead and turned out the lights.

  ***

Addison woke to a dark room. Her head was throbbing and the more she sat up the worse it got. She thought she was way more drunk than she gave herself credit for this evening. When she finally managed to sit up, she got out of bed and stumbled her way to the restroom. Her head was so hazy as she opened the door and made it out into the hall. If she didn’t have to pee so bad she would just lay herself back down.

The whole house was dark, pitch dark, making her think Tia went home with that Andy, because the place was usually lit like a damn Christmas tree. But at this moment she was very thankful for all the lights being off.

She felt the wall as she groggily walked so she wouldn’t fall over. A broken nose at work would be a great thing to explain to Frank when she showed up tomorrow. When she felt the handle under her fingertips, she was dreading turning on the bathroom light. But as she made her way in she noticed there was some moonlight coming through the window, so she didn’t have to.

Once she was done, she opened the door back to the hall, and all she could think about was getting comfortable in bed again. And why the hell she was still in her clothing she just couldn’t imagine. All she knew was, she had to sleep off this buzz or it was going to make for a long-ass day tomorrow.

She stumbled out the door, headed directly across the hall and opened her bedroom door. She threw off her top, peeled off her skirt, then stripped off her bra. She walked next to her bed and fell into it, and right before she passed out she pulled out that annoying rubber band to let her hair free.

It was bad enough having to hear Rex fucking some high-pitched screamer this late, but the couch was just too damn small. All Win wanted to do was go to bed, and at this point he just needed to get the hell out of there.

When he got to his apartment, he opened the door and turned on a light to see Addison wasn’t on the couch anymore. He took a deep breath, knowing there was nothing he could do at this minute about her being in bed with South. But he and South were going to sit and have a talk tomorrow, and that might include some fist talk as well.

He made his way to his bedroom, taking one more look at South’s door, and shook his head. He knew he wouldn’t handle seeing her in bed with him, so he opened his door and turned on the light, just wanting to sleep off the rest of the damn night, when his gaze fell to a naked woman lying on his bed.

“What the fu…?” He looked back at the door and then at her. That’s when it hit him: it was Addison. She was in his bed?

Her hair was draped across his pillow and he could see her whole back was tattooed with angel wings. In the middle of her back the wings looked like they broke free from her skin, and feathers wrapped around her shoulder blades; a couple of feathers made it to her arm, then ran all the way down, hugging her sides and back. The feathers came to an end curling halfway down her ass. He chuckled; he knew she was his angel.

Then he noticed on her left ass cheek she had red puckered lips, and he held in his chuckle as he thought of her telling everyone to kiss her ass. Damn, this woman was amazing.

She mumbled in her sleep. “Lights,” she said in a low, sleepy rusty voice. His hands went to his hair, as his dick was already so hard it fucking ached. How the hell was he going to get any sleep lying next to that fantasy?

He switched off the lights, hoping that not seeing her would help his worked-up erection. Shit! He was so tired he had to get to bed, and he wasn’t sleeping on their couch! Slipping off his shirt, then his pants, he was going to lie d
own, but stopped and went to his drawers to get a pair of sweats.

  “Addison, scoot over,” he whispered.

She lifted her head and he could see the outline of her tits even in the dark. She picked herself up, going to the other pillow, and he lay on the covers next to her. There was no sense in tempting fate if he crawled under the sheets with her. So he stretched out on his back and put his arms behind his head, trying to get comfortable and forget the warm little body lying next to him.

His eyes had started to close when an arm went over his chest and that warm little body…it cuddled up next to him. What he couldn’t see in the dark, he sure as hell could feel against his body. Those amazing bare tits pressed up against his bare chest. He could feel her hardened nipples on his skin and he groaned. Her hand grazed across his chest, then slipped to his lower stomach as she caressed him. She kicked off the covers, draping her leg over his thigh.

He was torn between getting himself the hell away from her before he did something stupid, and sucking it up and taking the blue balls just so he could have her this way tonight. Her head cuddled into his chest and she kissed his skin, making him shudder. Fuck, she was a temptress! Her hand skimmed the lining of the sheets. “You came home early tonight,” she mumbled sleepily.

He knew she had to be dreaming by the way she asked the question, but dreaming or not, he couldn’t help himself. “I’ll always come home to you, angel,” his voice rumbled. Her head came up for a kiss, and he groaned softly before he reached down, meeting her lips.

She opened his mouth and he could tell where this was going to lead, and it was hard to stop and not give her what she was asking for. But when he made love to her for the first time, she was going to know it was him and not some drunken dream of only God knows who. “I’m tired, baby. Let’s just get some sleep tonight,” he whispered, kissing her softly one last time.

She hugged him close to her. “Party pooper,” she whispered, and he chuckled. After a minute he could feel the soft breath against his skin, and knew she had finally fallen back asleep. But falling asleep like he was hoping to do now, that wasn’t going to come as easily for him.

  Chapter 7

Addison felt warmth under her hands and her mind was remembering Jimmy when he was younger and so in love with her. The things that man would do to her body were amazing! This dream felt so real as she felt the soft skin under her hand. Damn, she was turned on!

She heard someone calling her name, and that confused her. This was a dream? “What the fuck!” someone shouted. Man, someone was pissed. Was she on the tour bus? “Just give me ten minutes with him, Nickels,” she rasped out.

Why did he always have to interrupt her and Jimmy? Could she not get to spend time with her husband without Nickels always coming in and taking him away from her?

“I’m going to beat the living fuck out of you!” someone fumed.

Okay, Nickels was way beyond pissed. She sighed, then hugged the body closer to her and opened her eyes. Her hand grazed Jimmy’s hardened erection, and she heard him gasp and then moan. “Fuck!”

She looked up, pulling herself upright and blinking her eyes a couple of times to get them to work properly. But instead of Nickels looking back at her, it was South. Who looked ready to kill someone! She ran her hands over her face to make sure she was seeing this right, and yup, it was South. What was he doing in her apartment?

Her body went still; she took her head off of the chest she was dreaming was Jimmy’s and turned to look at the man she was pretty much lying on top of. Win looked down at her and seemed just about at his breaking point.

She jumped off him quickly and hit her back against a wall. Both men looked down at her chest so she did so, only to notice she was naked. Grabbing the pillow next to her she threw it over her chest. “How—how did I get here?” she asked nervously.

Slowly she got up off the bed, clinging against the wall. “I don’t remember coming here last night,” she told Win, who she happened to have woken up in bed with. He frowned at her, running his hand through his hair.

“I brought you in when you passed out in my car. You were in my bed last night!” South said angrily. Her eyes flashed over to him.

“I passed out and you brought me to your bed?” she started to yell.

South’s angry face drooped. “No, you were clothed when I took you to bed. I didn’t do anything,” he told her. She looked around the room, seeing her clothes on Win’s floor. He was sitting up but didn’t say anything to her, so she picked up her clothes and ran to the bathroom. Holy shit, she needed to figure out what happened last night.

There was a light knock on the door. “Addison, it’s me. Open up,” Win said.

She was fumbling with her bra. “Just go away, Winston!” she answered, slipping on her shirt.

Looking into the mirror, she saw makeup all over her face. She quickly splashed some water on it, hoping to wake up more, then she took one of their towels and wiped off all her mascara and leftover lipstick.

Her head was throbbing as she opened the door to talk to Win. But instead of letting her out, he came into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.

“What the hell happened? Did we have sex last night? Because I don’t remember a damn thing,” she asked, twisting her hands together.

He leaned against the sink, looking down at her. “No, we didn’t do anything last night. I came into my room and you were passed out on my bed. I was so tired, so I just told you to move over. I wore my sweats to bed, angel.” She let go of the breath that she was holding, fearing for the worst. But he came up to her, his body touching hers. “Would it be so bad to wake up with me though?” he asked.

She looked up at him, and those deep blue eyes. “No, I’m not saying that. But the life you’re looking for, the rocker thing, I don’t want any part of. I just want a normal life. Practice, house, kids, a dog named Tennessee. I don’t want money, or fame. I don’t want to get involved in that again,” she said softly.

“Again?” he asked, ducking down for her to explain. But she just shook her head. “And South? You think South doesn’t want to be a rock star? That he doesn’t love the rock scene or the groupies that go with it?” he asked her, baffled.

She sighed, taking a step back from him, and placed her hands on her hips, looking at the floor. “This has nothing to do with South. Win, a guy like you…you’re my kryptonite. You’ll make me lose focus on my goals, and I don’t want that to happen. I can’t afford to have that happen to me again.”

He reached out, taking a strand of her hair that was lying on her shoulder. “We have something when we’re together, I know you feel that spark between us. Why not see where it takes us?” he told her, pulling her to him.

“I can’t see starting something that will end badly for me. I’ve had a lot of ‘badly’ in the last couple years, Win. I want to be a doctor. That’s what I want, that’s all I have time for right now,” she explained quietly. She took his hands off her hips, slipping by his tall lean frame and out of the bathroom.

South was sitting on the couch, still looking pretty pissed, but Addison knew what she wanted in life. She’d already let one man talk her out of her dreams; she couldn’t afford to let that happen again.

“Thanks for taking me home last night. Sorry for all the confusion this morning.” She smiled, then made her way out the door.

  ***

Could two weeks suck so badly? Why, yes, yes they could. Addison had worked a twenty-four-hour shift, taking small catnaps on the cots in the break room. It was three in the morning when she pulled into her parking spot.

She swore that she never wanted to see another pair of scrubs again! And was so thankful that Frank gave her tomorrow off. Maybe she’d finally be able to go see the guys play tomorrow night.

Walking up the flight of stairs when she was this damn tired was just wrong on so many levels, but she stopped when she heard a soft moan coming from the landing in front of her. It was like doctor instinct kicked
in, to go check and see if someone was hurt.

She made her tired body run to the sound, thinking in her head that someone could be on the ground having a heart attack or a drug overdose… But instead of finding someone hurt like she so stupidly thought, she found Win hot and heavy in the staircase with some girl, his hand up her skirt, doing his thing to her.

At least she got there before he was screwing her, and all her tired brain could manage was… “Thank goodness I didn’t have to watch that too.”

As soon as she hit the landing, Win looked up to see her standing there. The girl he was with turned around and smiled at Addison. “Did you see something you wanted to join in on?” she giggled at her.

Addison’s eyes went up to meet Win’s, and he frowned. “Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt. Please continue, but I’ve had a long-ass day, just let me get by without having to see you two fucking in the hallway,” she said, starting to walk by. “I already had to deal with a patient’s stiff dick that wouldn’t go down, there’s only so much a woman can take in one night,” she mumbled, making this bleached blonde, fake-boob woman giggle.

“Addison…” he called out loudly to her.

She just turned back, looking at the girl and at him. She was right, she knew she was right. Someone like him had to find a screw. He would never get it, and this is what she’d be coming home to. Never knowing what he was doing on her long night away at work. She looked into his eyes and said the one word that would say it all: “Kryptonite.”

Heading to her apartment, she was thankful she was too tired to cry. What did she expect? Did she think he was going to actually wait for her? She ran her hand over her face as she was walking by Win and South’s apartment, when she finally looked up and saw South standing there watching her. “I was waiting to see if you looked up.”
