‘Quite!’ Tollin punched one final button with a flourish. Then she watched him spin on his heel and trot towards the door. Sam hurried after him.

‘Tollin?’ Sam caught him by the arm and pulled him to a stop. Her heart was thudding, too many emotions—some she wasn’t sure were her own—bombarding her at once. All he’d gone through…yet after it all he was still glad to see her.

He was smiling so warmly as he looked down at her now, she’d missed that smile. ‘Yeah?’

Sam bit her lip, and then quickly, before she lost her nerve, stood on tiptoe and kissed him lightly. She dropped back away from him with a smile she couldn’t hide fast enough.

Tollin stood frozen for a moment, blinking, and then he beamed widely. ‘Thanks!’

Her grin widened with her relief. He wasn’t offended. ‘No problem.’

He held out his hand to her. ‘You know what I want?’

Sam wrapped her fingers through his, closing her eyes to the welcome feeling. ‘What?’

‘A hot bath! And then some hot food!’

She squeezed his hand. ‘I think I can manage that.’

He grinned again, and then, hand in hand, they walked on to whatever awaited them.

  Together.
