  The Fairy Godmothers laughed.

  Drawing in a shuddering breath the Prince leaned his forehead into Charlotte’s brow. Pulse thundering he exhaled. Instinctively his hand traveled to her belly. An imperceptible flutter, a spiral flared. Lost in the white-hot intensity they drifted along the boundary where he ended and she began. Together they grazed the threshold of spirit, where two become one.

  He held her soul. The gateway, where her belly met his hand, and they both touched the edges of the universe. She had no words to articulate the magnitude of fragility she felt in that moment. The Chimera had not broken her. But if the Prince broke this bond, he could.
