by Emma Wunsch
I am grateful to superstar illustrator Jessika von Innerebner, who made Miranda and Maude (and the whole 3B world) come alive.
Thanks to the Mountain River Valley Writing Group. This isn’t actually our name (yet), but everyone in it has an excellent sense of humor and I look forward to hearing all the words you think I should’ve cut from these acknowledgments.
Thanks to Claudia Palmer, who is so great to work with that she’d make taking a Mandatory National Reading and Writing and Math exam almost fun! I’m very grateful that my aunts Sarah and Chris generously let me write (and rewrite!) this book in the Vermont house.
Love to my parents and my brother, Jake, who are so encouraging and supportive, they’ll probably each buy ninety-seven copies of this book!
A megaphone THANK YOU to Sadie Mielcarz, who read the first Miranda and Maude book nine hundred years ago. A gigantic thank you to Gwyn McGee, who was the first person not related to me to read this one. Sadie and Gwyn’s interest and suggestions were totally worth the payment of pancakes (with tons of syrup) and one (gigantic) brownie sundae.
My husband, Nicholas Gaffney, is a thoughtful listener, offers good advice, and was (mostly) understanding about the writing stretch when I protested the entire concept of laundry.
Georgia and Dahlia, my daughters, are the heart of Miranda and Maude. Their enthusiasm, along with the occasional reading over my shoulder (as I typed!), made the hard parts worth it.
Mostly, I feel fortunate that I had two Miss Kindes when I was in school. Mrs. Schweitzer (third grade) and Ms. Martha Weisberg (high school English) paved the way for me to become a writer by making me feel that my creative endeavors could be important. To all the Miss Kindes, who tirelessly support kids and their (sometimes) banana-pants projects, THANK YOU!
EMMA WUNSCH
Emma Wunsch’s theater career began and ended with her role as Kangaroo in a town production of Peter Pan. It was a non-speaking part, which might be why she became a writer. Banana Pants! is her second chapter book in the Miranda and Maude series. She lives in Lebanon, New Hampshire, with her husband and their two daughters.
