They both stared out the front window.

“Hang on,” he said. “That’s why you’re the Pope’s assassin?”

She glanced at the clock on the dashboard and took a deep, shaky breath, regret tinging her eyes. It was nearly 4:30 AM. “I am afraid that will have to wait for another time, Constable. If I do not move with all due haste, I shall miss my flight home. Then we would both be in trouble.”

She slipped the bloodied napkin into her bag and opened the passenger side door. “It has been a pleasure, Constable.”

  “A pleasure? I arrested you.”

She grinned. “I’ve never been arrested before. Never been interrogated, either. Interesting experiences.”

“I bet you’ve had a ton of interesting experiences.”

“Indeed, I have.” She reached over and placed a hand on his forearm. “So very nice to have met you, Detective Rafferty. Do take care.”

“To you, it’s Constable, and the pleasure’s been all mine, Alice.”

She stepped out of his car and walked to hers. She unlocked the door, pulled it open and ducked in to set her bag on the passenger seat. She straightened up and looked back at Rafferty and waved. When he waved back, she climbed in and shut the door.

As she started the rental, he pulled up alongside her and lowered the passenger side window. She, in turn, lowered her driver’s side window.

“Can I assume from your vast life experience that you’re an exceptional driver?”

  “Absolutely. Why?”

He grinned wickedly and flicked a switch on his dash. The blue light bubble on top of his dashboard started to whirl and flash.

“You do need to get to the airport with all due haste, don’t you? Follow me.”

She burst out laughing as his car surged ahead and shot down the block. She put her rental car in gear and her tires squealed on the pavement as she pressed the accelerator to the floor.

On the run from a Vatican hit team, Sister Jacobine seeks a safe haven with the only people she can trust. That trust nearly gets them all killed, when the ruthless killers from Rome finally track her down.

With an army of trained killers closing in, Sister Jacobine is forced to take drastic action to disappear from the church’s radar. Even if the hastily drawn-up plan succeeds, where on earth will she go?

How to make a big difference!

  Reviews are powerful.

Authors like me, without the financial muscle of a sleek New York publisher backing me, can’t take advertisements out in the subways and billboards of the world.

On the other hand, New York publishers would kill to get what I have: A committed and loyal group of readers.

Honest reviews of my books help bring them to the attention of other readers. If you enjoyed this book I would be grateful if you could spend just a few minutes leaving a review (it can be as short as you like) on the book’s page where you bought it.
