  Connie turned her eyes in Sable’s direction. Sable had her back to them, but her shoulders were shaking, and Connie could hear a definite chuckle coming from her.

  “Sable Butterworth!” Connie declared. “How could you buy her that?”

  Sable looked over her shoulder, merriment on her face. “She might as well dress the part. She looks cute.”

  Connie looked at Megan, and then back to Sable. “You won’t be thinking that in a minute. She’s got your wedding band on her thumb.”

  “What?” Sable spun around. She looked at her left hand. “How? When? The little tinker! I think our next case is going to be called ‘The Devious Four-Year-Old Pilferer’. I’m going to start a file as soon as I get home.”
