Now that was useful knowledge to share with humankind. It might even get him invited back into heaven. Not that he would accept.

Zaz remembered what he was there for. Focus, evil Batman, focus. His obsidian eyes glittered as he summoned his best withering look.

“This is very disappointing, Gabriel. The boss isn’t going to be happy. At all. You promised to deliver the mortal to me.”

“I played my part. I could not have anticipated Rael’s disobedience.”

“You obviously didn’t have as much control over your pet as you thought you did.”

“I accept no responsibility for him. He was a pleasant diversion at one time. Now he’s an inconvenience.”

Gabriel crouched, brandishing his bloodied blade. Zaz moved quickly, his iron grip halting the angel’s thrust before the point penetrated Rael’s vulnerable neck.

“I suppose I could find some use for this one in the Sluagh. He already knows how to fly, at least. And it would be better for you if I didn’t return empty-handed.” His voice was flat with casual disinterest, even as his wings quivered, threatening to betray him. Relinquishing his hold on the knife, he gave one of Rael’s legs an idle kick to emphasise his indifference.

Gabriel gave a shrug, his feathers rustling. “I have no further use for him. You can have him. I’ll wipe his mind. I know the Sluagh prefer an empty vessel. I’ll only leave his suffering.”

“No!” Zaz said quickly. He gave a chilling smile. “Leave it all. Don’t you want vengeance for what he’s done? I can’t think of a better punishment than allowing him to remember what caused that pain.”

“That is true.” Gabriel took hold of a crumpled bundle of feathers. “Then there’s only one thing I must do. Remove his other wing.”

“As you wish.” Zaz was careful to keep his tone neutral, masking the disgust churning inside him.

  And they call me evil.

Davis loves dreaming up harems of complicated men for her slightly angsty gay harem paranormal romances and her snarky reverse harem stories. She lives in a tiny village in Ireland and many of her books are inspired by local legends and folklore.

In between writing, Davis designs notebooks, eats too many salt and vinegar crisps, ugly cries over the fates of fictional characters and watches European movies with sad endings.
