Epilogue
Kyla sat inside the old mansion, which had now been legally acquired, and through the correct channels. The sun was shining through the window with all its might, its warm rays heating her skin as she relaxed back in the chair, her arms resting over her swollen belly.
The light caught the rings on her finger, sending sparkles dazzling around the room, reminding her once again of the fact that she was married to her soul mate, and thanks to his “abilities”, was now able to bear his children.
The only thing that had frightened her with the thought of marrying her handsome demon was the prospect of growing old in time, her wrinkled, shrivelling body would no longer be attractive to an ageless model of a man.
Her family’s bloodline, with their witch abilities ensured that the ageing process was slowed down, gifting her thirty-three-year-old body with the looks of a twenty-year-old. Her indulgence in Azazel’s blood once a month ensured that she stayed in a timeless state, age never coming for her, as his magickal abilities seated themselves inside her, gifting her with even more exceptional talents than she already had.
“Hey.”
She turned around with a big smile to see Sam walking towards her, fruit juices in hand with a giant tub of ice cream complete with two spoons. Her ring finger was sporting its own occupant with a glorious two-carat princess cut diamond.
“Hey.” Kyla smiled, grabbing the spoon and the ice cream quicker than she realised.
“When are the boys back?” Sam asked, her green eyes glistening over with love as she thought of Balthazar, her body tingling in an instant at the thought of her soul mate.
“Soon,” Kyla replied, groaning in pleasure as the ice cream slid down her throat.
“Not soon enough,” Sam said, pouting. “I want to plan our honeymoon.”
Kyla grinned, still not believing that Balthazar had found his own soul mate in her best friend. It really couldn’t have been more perfect.
“You know,” Sam said, spooning more ice cream into her mouth with a thoughtful look on her face. “I really never thought I’d see the day when you and I would be shacked up with two brothers, you married and pregnant, and me soon to be.”
Kyla grinned, wholly agreeing with Sam’s words. She’d never had herself down as the marriage type, but then she guessed that’s what love does to you—it comes along when you least expect it and throws you completely off track.
She glanced down at the beautiful ring on her finger—her family heirloom. She rubbed her hands over her moving belly with a warm linger, thinking of the bouncing baby boy growing inside of her, and whether she could produce a spell to keep him out of the grips of the Lamia.
She had a distinct feeling that he would definitely only be attracted to the wrong kind of woman. Her thoughts took her back to her ring, still seated on her middle finger. A priceless family heirloom that would be passed from generation to generation with a detailed, descriptive leather bound book on the ways of the world, the creatures in it, and the purpose of the ring. She began to wonder if she would ever bear a daughter one day, wondering if she would end up on her own twisted road of falling for a demon.
“Over my dead body.”
Kyla was startled from her thoughts by the familiar sound of Azazel’s voice, her face lighting up with joy as she flung herself into his arms. He’d only been gone five days but it had seemed like a lifetime.
Azazel nuzzled into her neck, inhaling her familiar, fruity smell. He turned his head to see his brother caressing Sam’s delicate face, love and tenderness oozing from every pore in his body. He smiled at the sight, truly pleased that finally, Balthazar had found his woman—it had just been a long, long wait.
After thousands of years, trials, tribulations, heartache, pain, sorrow, grief, lies, and gallons of blood, neither brother could actually believe that these women did love them—even for their warts and all.
The sweet scent of lavender trickled through the air, coating the loved up couples in the familiar, comforting presence of Mildred. The old maid had been exceptionally quiet over the past months, watching a happily ever after unfolding for the foursome she had come to love as her own family.
Too caught up in their overwhelming joy, not one of them had noticed the wistful, pained glaze that had now taken permanent residence in the witch’s once sparkling eyes.
Her long, elegant fingers automatically went to her neck, brushing over the powerful hexagram she fondled so often.
“Soon, Henry,” she whispered, blinking back tears. “Soon.”
