Secrets of a Sinner Page 23

by Yolonda Tonette Sanders

Natalie is very discouraged in Chapter 24. If you could offer her advice at this point what would it be?

It appears that Natalie is once again trying to run from her problems in Chapter 24. What kinds of activities do you engage in that prevent you from dealing with your problems head-on?

Do you (or have you ever) feared getting married or having children? How have your childhood experiences influenced your views of marriage and parenting—positively or negatively?

If you’re a Christian, think back to the time when you first gave your life to Christ. What events led up to this decision? In retrospect, can you see ways God was trying to get your attention before then?

Natalie thinks about Proverbs 3:5, which states “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.” When going through storms, are you able to apply this scripture to your own life?

Do you think Natalie was right to confront Toni? Why or why not? Does the Bible give instructions on how to handle conflict with fellow Christians?

Natalie learns that forgiveness is a necessary component of her Christian walk. What are some barriers that prevent us from forgiving? What advice would you give someone who is having difficulty applying forgiveness to a particular person? Is immediate forgiveness really possible? Why or why not?

Why do you think Natalie felt comfortable enough to share her secret with Aneetra when she hadn’t shared it with anyone else, including Wendy?

Some people believe that all religions ultimately lead to the same God—even if we don’t all have the same beliefs. If you’re a Christian and you believe this, how do you justify this belief considering Jesus’ words in 1 John 14:6?

One of the signs of a mature Christian is someone who can admit wrongdoing. Tell about a time when you had to apologize to someone for hurting them—even though you may have done so unintentionally.

Are you a single (i.e., unmarried) Christian? What measures do you and your boyfriend/girlfriend take to prevent falling into sexual temptation with each other?

Compare Natalie’s character in Soul Matters and now. What does this say about the power of God to change lives?
