To Dodge a Duke (Entangled Nobility Book 2) Page 23

After entering the carriage, it jerked into motion, and she settled into the seat next to Logan. She peered up at him, only to find him as tranquil as she. “I wonder how my parents will react to all this. Mother must have had a fit when I was not there for our wedding day.”

He grinned down at her. “I sent them a note before I departed London. I informed your mother that we would marry at my discretion. She likely is furious, but there is little she can do.”

Her mother would be furious, indeed. Her mother would have planned an elaborate wedding breakfast and invited anyone who was anyone to attend. Of course, there would be a scandal, but that did not bother Eleanor. Nothing did on this magical day.

They arrived at the chapel, and Logan helped her from the carriage. They entered, and Eleanor stopped as her eyes adjusted to the change in light. She gasped as she viewed the interior. The church was beautiful. The architectural style was gothic, with large, stained-glass windows depicting various moments in Jesus’s life. Although small, this chapel boasted more character and charm than many she had frequented in London.

Logan led her up the row of marble pews to the altar where the vicar waited. Logan spoke to him and then joined Eleanor as they waited for the vicar to summon a couple of witnesses. Several minutes ticked by before an older couple took a seat in the front pew.

The ceremony commenced, although Eleanor was unable to pay attention to anything but the feeling of Logan’s large hand as it encompassed her own smaller one. After some time, they exchanged their vows, and Logan slipped a ring onto her finger. After a chaste kiss, Eleanor was stunned to discover the ceremony was over, and Logan was sweeping her into his arms and carrying her out to the carriage.

“Do you like it?” Logan indicated the ring on her left hand.

“Of course,” Eleanor whispered against him as she gazed at the ring he had placed there. It was simple but beautiful, boasting a large diamond surrounded by smaller sapphires. It twinkled when she moved her hand. Aside from its obvious beauty, it felt right, nestled there against her skin. Just as she felt right, tucked up against her husband.

“It is a family heirloom, but if you don’t like it I can get you something different.”

“Of course not,” Eleanor said as tears began to threaten her eyes. She felt so happy, completely and unabashedly happy.

He lowered his mouth to hers in a much fiercer kiss than the one exchanged in the chapel. The feeling of his body against hers, and the intense sparks of attraction made her long for a quick carriage ride back. All those thoughts were swept aside as he continued to kiss her, but she pulled away long enough to say, “I love you, Your Grace.”

  “And I you, Your Grace.”

Then, he returned his mouth to hers, and she was lost. Blissfully lost.

  A word about the author…

Naomi Boom is an author with a newly discovered love for writing. Her inspiration struck when she was searching for the perfect historical romance novel to read. Nothing sounded appealing, so she decided she would write her own. That one novel has morphed into a series and hopefully many, many more.

She currently resides in Kansas with her family but has her eyes firmly planted on an acreage in eastern South Dakota. Once her husband retires from the United States Army, they will return to her home state.
