  A Note on Fonts

The text of this book is Minion Pro, a typeface designed in the 1990s by Robert Slimbach and inspired by the typefaces developed in the late Renaissance era.

Weregirl’s title font is True North, designed by Cindy Kinash and Charles Gibbons. Cindy creates fonts and designs from Vancouver, and Charles is the chief designer for the U.S. Copyright office. The other font used on the cover of this book is Ruskin, which was created by Michael Harvey and Andrs Benedek as a commission for signs for the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh.

Every chapter begins with the fanciful letters of Jellyka Castle’s Queen, designed by Jellyka Nereven aka Jessica, who has been designing fonts for the past fifteen years, since she was 13 years old.

  Photograph: Jean Bourbon

When she’s not hanging out with her two children and husband in Brooklyn, NY, you can find Cathleen Davitt Bell writing in a decrepit RV clinging to the side of a hill in upstate New York, trying to teach herself to watercolor, or inventing her own recipes. She received her undergraduate degree from Barnard College and her MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University, and is the author of the novels Slipping, Little Blog on the Prairie, I Remember You, and a co-author of The Amanda Project.
