And it didn’t take long for her to get there. How could it when it felt like he was directing ever ounce of his attention towards her, building her up and up and up and then pushing her over the edge with the slightest graze of his teeth on her clit. It startled her when she came, and Eve didn’t have time to stifle that sharp cry that spilled out of her mouth when the pleasure erupted over her in dizzying waves.

She was left gasping and panting, head hanging down while Reese continued to kiss and lick gently at her core.

Eventually it was too much, and she let herself move off of him, throbbing with the aftershocks of her orgasm while he licked his lips and turned heated eyes on her. “You taste delicious,” Reese said with a grin, and he pulled her into a kiss, letting her see for herself.

It was so hot. This was all so much better than anything she had ever done alone, and she wasn’t ready for it to end.

Luckily, there was still the little matter of Reese’s arousal to take care of. Eve reached down and wrapped her hand around his cock, stroking it slowly. “Do you want me?” she asked, eyes intent on his.

“Silly question,” he replied, panting softly. “I think that’s pretty obvious.”

She grinned, trailing her fingers through the slippery fluid that was already leaking out of the head of his erection. She held his gaze and made a show of bringing her fingers to her lips, licking them clean.

The strangled noise she got in response made her grin widely, and she wiggled her hips until she was in the perfect position to slide down onto him.

Reese arched as much as he could, and Eve gave a soft cry at all that hard, heated flesh sliding inside of her. He filled her right up, and she couldn’t help the little whimper once she was all the way down. He felt so good, and she couldn’t even take the time to hold still, instead pumping her hips in slow, languid motions that left them both breathless.

His hands found their way back to her hips for the moment, although one of them strayed up her body to grope and squeeze at her breast while she rode him.

Their eyes never left each other, holding that heat and letting it build between them while they moved together. Other than their little noises and harsh breathing, the room was silent, and Eve felt like she could lose herself in this forever if she tried hard enough.

Nothing outside the bedroom door mattered in that moment. Not when they were joined like this, moving and breathing each other in. It was the perfect thing after such a long, trying last few days, and could tell from the blissful expression on Reese’s face that he was feeling the same way.

Before long, they were both gasping and moving faster, Eve’s hips taking on an almost frantic pace as she raced towards her second orgasm.

Reese seemed to be right behind her, and no sooner had she stiffened and shuddered through her pulse pounding climax, than Reese was doing the same, gasping for breath and flopping back against the bed.

Eve couldn’t help the soft laugh that huffed out of her once she had moved to lie down next to him, feeling sticky and sweaty, but so good.

“What?” Reese asked. “If you’re laughing at my sexual skills, then I am going to be so mad at you.”

“I’m not a promise. Just…that was really good. I kinda can’t believe I went from not having sex for the past three years to doing this.”

“Oh.” Reese pushed his hair out of his face. “Well, I’m happy to have come along and made it easier for you to get laid,” he teased. “But it’s kinda the same for me. It’s something I never really made time for before. Couldn’t compare to racing down a ramp at breakneck speed.”

Eve snorted and arched an eyebrow. “Oh, really? And now? Am I better than trying to cheat death?”

He rolled onto his side carefully so he could kiss her. “You’re better than a lot of things, Eve.”

“That’s not an answer, I hope you know.”

He laughed, and he couldn’t help but join in, feeling lighter than she had since…well, since the last time they had been together like this, probably. She felt like she deserved this break from worrying and wondering what was going to happen with her life.

Her father and all his crap were relegated to the back of her mind, for her to think about later, sometime after she’d slept and cleaned up. Devin would be coming back eventually, and she’d need to be dressed and prepared to make dinner or something before he got back. She’d told Carla to let her known before they headed back, and she figured she at least had a couple of hours before that happened.

As much as she loved her brother, sometimes she just needed a break. Sometimes she just needed time to be a young woman with needs and wants of her own, as selfish as that sounded in her own head.

Reese gave her that. He gave it to her without asking her to forget that she was also a guardian for a little boy. He never made it seem like a choice between what she wanted to do and her responsibilities, and she was so, so grateful for that. It definitely boded well for the future. For their future, although, she was pretty sure that she was jumping the gun a little bit by trying to plan for what might happen with them.

After all, there was a lot to sort out with that. They had agreed to be a couple, but there was still the fact that Reese wouldn’t be stagnant forever. Eventually he would heal and go back to his life of racing and competing and being dangerous, and he would have to leave. She had no idea what his schedule was like when he was doing his sports regularly, but Eve was pretty sure that it meant the time they could spend together like this would be greatly diminished.

But she held in her sigh about that. They still had plenty of time, and who knew? By the time Reese was ready to get back out there, months would have passed and they would be even stronger together. Maybe it would all work out.

She found that she really hoped it would.

“You’re thinking very loud,” Reese murmured, eyes on her.

“Oh. Sorry. Just…a lot on my mind, I guess. I’ve never really learned how to turn it off completely, although when we were having sex, it wasn’t a problem.”

“We’ll just have to do that more often, won’t we?” Reese teased.

“Mhm. We definitely will.” She yawned widely and turned to cuddle into his side. “Gonna take a nap. If you’re awake and my phone rings, let me know?”

He nodded. “Will do. I’ll probably stay awake.”

“’Kay,” she said, letting her eyes slide closed. “Thanks.” And she was out like a light.

It was some time later when her eyes blinked open again. The bed was cold and empty, but a blanket had been tossed over her naked body. She could hear the sound of Reese talking in the other room, so she knew he hadn’t left, and Eve tilted her head, trying to see if he was on the phone or if there was someone else in there.

When she heard the familiar peal of Devin’s laughter, her eyes shot open wide. Darn it, someone was supposed to wake her up before Devin got here, but clearly she had been allowed to sleep in.

A quick glance at the clock told her that two hours had passed since she’d fallen asleep, and Eve stretched before getting up and pulling on her clothes. She had wanted to shower first, but she supposed that would have to wait until later.

The fact that Reese and Devin were alone in there and had been for who knew how long seemed to be a good sign that they were getting along, which made her smile. Anyone who wanted to be with her was going to have to get along with her brother because he was going to be a permanent part of her life for the foreseeable future.

Eve knew that Devin was actually pretty crazy about Reese since he spent so much time talking about him and about doing stunts and tricks after the last time they had seen each other, and Eve so pleased that she wasn’t even thinking about how dangerous and nerve wracking it would be if Devin got it into his head that he wanted to try those things.

Shaking her head at the thought, she headed out into the living room, smiling at the sight of Devin sitting on the couch, talking animatedly to Reese who was sitting next to him and sh
aking his head.

“No, it wouldn’t work like that,” he said. “See, the bikes I use for my tricks are different than regular bikes. They’re made with special materials to help them be able to do the flips and spins and stuff. Your friend couldn’t have done anything like that on his bike without hurting himself.”

Devin frowned and then grinned triumphantly. “I knew it! I knew he had to be lying. He’s scared of heights anyway, so there’s no way he coulda did that.”

“Probably just wanted to show off for you guys,” Reese said with a shrug. “Next time, ask him to prove it and see how fast he backs down.”

“And if he doesn’t back down, tries it, and then breaks his neck?” Eve teased, walking further in and looking at them.

“His fault!” they both said at the same time, and Eve shook her head, amused.

“Right. Well. What do you want for dinner?” She was asking Devin, but the warm look Reese was giving her had her looking at him.

“Pizza!” Devin cried, leaping up from the couch and running into the kitchen to pull out a box of the frozen kind he liked. “Can we?”

Usually she tried to save things like pizza and burgers for the weekend, having things with more nutritional value during the week, but it had been a rough time for all of them so she thought they deserved the treat. “Pizza it is,” Eve said with a grin. “Can you preheat the oven for me?”

Devin nodded and went to do as she asked, always eager to help. While he was doing that, Eve smiled at Reese. “I thought I asked you to wake me up,” she said.

“I tried,” he said, holding up his hands. “But you grumbled at me and told me to go away. So I did, and I let Devin in and explained to Mrs. Santiago that I was a friend of yours and not a serial killer. It helped that Devin knows who I am, although…he might have told her that I’m your boyfriend.”

Eve groaned. “Great. So there’s that to look forward to next time I see her. She’ll want all the gossip.” She shook her head, but smiled. “Well, I’m glad to see that you two seem to be getting along. I was kinda worried about that.”

“Me, too, if I’m honest,” Reese admitted. “I mean, I know he’s basically your entire world, and you’d choose him over any random guy who happened to crash land into your life. I was really hoping he’d be okay with me.”

“I think ‘okay with you’ is an understatement,” Eve pointed out. “He’s shy a lot around men he doesn’t know well. I guess it has something to do with not having a father growing up and basically being raised by three different women who were all pretty much unattached, I dunno. But I’ve never seen him be so comfortable with someone before. Not like this, anyway. He really likes you.”

Reese smiled and scrubbed a hand through his hair, mussing the curls. “Probably helps that I’ve got a cool job.”

“Probably,” Eve agreed. “Also helps that you’re sort of wonderful, I bet.”

He rolled his eyes at her, but then leaned in for a kiss. “How about I prove how wonderful I am by watching the kid and the pizza while you go hop in the shower? I know you wanted one.”

Honestly, Eve was surprised that she hadn’t woken up to realize that this was all a dream yet. “That sounds amazing. If he weren’t here, I’d show you just how amazing.”

Reese grinned. “I’m still reeling from the first round, trust me.”

She was going to kiss him again when Devin’s cry of “Ewwww,” broke the mood, and they both laughed.

“You’re just jealous, kid,” Reese teased.

“Nuh-uh! Girls are weird. And she’s my sister. And kissing is gross,” Devin asserted, and Eve was still laughing as she made her way into the bathroom to wash up.

  CHAPTER 9: DANGER

Christopher Hamilton hadn’t gotten up this early in the morning in a very long time.

He worked the night shift these days, hauling boxes at a warehouse until nearly six in the morning. But he’d called in sick for this.

He’d come down to the diner on the corner by his apartment for this. The small television he had in his place didn’t get very good reception, and Chris hadn’t wanted to miss a minute of what was sure to be a brilliant show.

The diner was always playing the channel with the morning show, so he hadn’t even had to worry about that as he settled into a booth with a good view to wait for the show to start.

“Good morning, everyone. Today on Up and at ‘Em in the Morning, we’re sitting down to talk with Reese Abbot, the young up and comer to the extreme sports world who suffered a tragic injury in his last competition, held right here in our fair city.”

He rolled his eyes. Deirdre Hicks was a joke of a talk show host, and this wasn’t why he was here. He wasn’t trying to hear what she had to say about it. No, he wanted the words right from Reese Abbot’s smug little mouth. Wanted to watch him struggle to keep it together while he announced that he was throwing in the towel. Giving up.

Abbot wasn’t stupid enough to tell anyone why he was doing it, either. At least not on television. Probably his friends and family knew, but that was fine. They’d been keeping an eye on them, too.

This was all going so well, and Chris was actually surprised that Reese had made it so easy. Usually things were harder and went wrong when it came to him.

“Maybe taken one too many drops to the head,” he muttered under his voice from where he sat, neck craned as he watched the TV in the little diner. The coffee he had ordered upon his arrival was still untouched, much to the obvious irritation of the young waitress who kept coming by wanting to refill his cup.

In a minute, he’d order something else.

But first he wanted to watch this.

“Hello, Mr. Abbot,” Deirdre was saying once the ridiculous amount of applause had died out some. “Thank you for coming on our show this morning.”

Reese smiled that hundred watt smile that seemed to charm everyone, and it was a struggle for Chris not to throw his cup at the television. He hated that smile.

“Thank you for having me. Needless to say I’ve been watching a lot of Up and at ‘Em since I’ve been out of commission, so it’s kind of awesome to be here. You can just call me Reese, by the way. No need to be so formal, right?”

There was an appreciative titter from the audience and from Deirdre, and Chris wanted to hit him in the face. “Just get to the part about you leaving, you smug prick,” he muttered under his breath, drawing strange glances from the tired looking truck drivers who had just walked past his table.

“We’re so flattered,” Deirdre said, smiling prettily at him. “So, it’s been a good little while since you met with that awful accident. How are you doing now?”

On the screen there was footage in slow motion of Reese falling, and Chris had to work hard to stifle a little laugh of glee as he watched. He’d been there when it had happened, of course. He’d almost had a front row seat for it. But there was something about watching it happen right on television in slow motion that made it all the better. Reese was talking over the footage, and it took the man a second to tear his attention back to Reese’s voice.

“It’s just my leg that I’m worried about now, really. And I’m on some great pain medication, and the doctors and everyone have been really helpful, so. I’m very grateful to them.”

There was another round of applause for that, and Chris rolled his eyes. Idiots.

“I’m sure everyone’s glad to hear that,” Deirdre replied. “I know I am. It’s no secret that you’re one of the fastest rising stars in this area, and I know that a lot of your fans were devastated that you didn’t manage to place in the competition.”

Reese nodded. “Yeah. I mean, I was disappointed too, of course, but I felt really bad about letting them down. I know they come to these things to see their favorites do a good job, and that’s definitely not what happened that day. But they were all so nice, and I got so many cards and flower bouquets while I was in the hospital, so thank you all so much for that.”

  Ugh.

&nbs
p; This was almost sickening to watch. Especially when Reese winked at the crowd and gave a little wave. As if Reese Abbot cared about his fans. It was well known that Reese was in it for his own thrill and he didn’t care who he had to take down to get the top and keep chasing that thrill. This stupid pandering to the audience was just for show, and it was annoying.

Chris drained his coffee in a few swallows and motioned for the waitress. She just rolled her eyes at him and then walked over with the pot to refill the cup.

“Can I get you anything else?” she asked, hand on one hip.

“Breakfast platter,” Chris replied. “Scrambled eggs and sausage.”

“Coming right up.” But she didn’t look pleased about it. He didn’t really care. They had cut to a commercial, so Chris checked his phone. Of the two of them who were involved with this plan, he was the one who was watching on the television.

The other person he was working with, his accomplice if things went bad, had another task and he’d apparently done it well. Now this was supposed to be their crowning moment. The part where they got to watch Reese Abbot crumble and then fade into obscurity.

He didn’t have any interest in watching the usual early morning commercials about going back to school or getting better insurance, although he amused himself to think that Reese was going to be needing that going back to school advice very soon himself.
