  It’s done.

  Something breathes and lets go.

And I know that, at last, Becky is free. And so am I.

In my pocket, my phone buzzes. I know before I look that it will be Zeke, texting to see how it went with Damien. Checking my plans for the night. I think about how much maths homework I’ve got waiting for me at home, it never seems to stop. Plus Zelda needs walking and my brother wants to practise a debating speech on me. I think about telling Zeke I’m too busy. But I only think about it for a second. I can’t wait to see him. We can do maths and walk Zelda and watch Tom’s speech together.

  I press call.
