His Target: The Downing Family Book 4 Page 16

by Wild, Cassie

So far, all I’d managed to do was watch Briar…and get very, very close to her, although I didn’t think fucking her had been part of the plan. I had no doubt my employer would be delighted to hear it, but I wasn’t about to tell him. I was disgusted with myself.

Thinking about what I’d done made my stomach twist into knots. It was an uncomfortable feeling, one that had taken a while for me to identify. I’d never had much experience with guilt until recently, and I could now say, without a doubt, I didn’t like it.

Things were coming to a head, too. Sooner or later, my employer was going to want information from me, and I had no idea what I would tell him.

The only thing I did know was that I never should have agreed to work for him. Whether it was possible to back out, I didn’t know.

He wasn’t the kind of guy one fucked around with.

People who pissed him off had been known to disappear, although I wasn’t above playing dirty myself.

Next to me, Briar made a low sound in her throat.

I eased back down, although I stayed on my side so I could watch her. A knot settled in my throat.

Damn you, Marcos. The thought seared through my brain as I thought of the bastard’s name.

If it wasn’t for that son of a bitch, Marcos Castellanos, I wouldn’t be in this position.

I had to find a way out.

But I didn’t have even the slightest idea where to start.
