Somehow he’d managed to hitch a ride here. Maybe Hip had helped him. Or Mark had. It didn’t matter. There were ways of being together. We both had responsibilities, but we’d always be Thisavros to each other.
The stars burst apart as Theo took me to heaven. The Amazon briefly awash in so much Elemental power no one could have mistaken what was happening in my tree house. I briefly felt embarrassment at that thought.
But I was their Queen. And Theo was a visiting King. And, really, who gave a fuck? We were in love.
Always. And forever.
No matter what.
We lay there panting, sweating in the sticky heat of the rainforest, and I wished for the hundredth time that I could summon a breeze.
And then I heard a voice I recognised down in the courtyard. I shook my head and assumed Theo had brought his cousin along to see me. Then Aktor replied to something Nico had said. I sat up slowly and cocked my head. Theo shifted beside me.
OK. Maybe he’d brought the old butler, too. In case I really did go into labour, and then they’d all be here for the birth of our baby. A special occasion. But worth making the journey to see.
And then Isadora Petros said something bitchy and Mark snapped back in turn.
I was up and out of bed faster than a pregnant woman of my advanced gestational stage should be able to achieve, the sheet wrapped around my naked body as I waddled out onto the balcony.
A hush fell over the crowd below and then shouts, and wolf whistles, and cheers, and applause sounded out.
Along with a hell of a lot of Pyrkagia flaring.
Theo came up beside me and kissed me on the side of my head.
“I hope you don't mind,” he said conversationally. “But we’ve moved in.”
I stared at familiar faces from home, my eyes landing on Sonya as she stood beside Aktor, my vision wavering. There had to be well over a hundred people down there.
I felt a lump form in my throat, and something loosen inside my chest.
It was a new world. A new day. A new life.
For all of us.
“I better start growing some trees,” I murmured.
We were going to need a heck of a lot more tree houses.
