I looked back at the smartass and took one deliberately slow and long stride out of the way as she trundled past with Garrett stumbling to keep up on the back end of the mattress. I shared a knowing look with Becky, and we chuckled at the help.

I was so glad that they had accepted my offer of them staying at Abigail's apartment as my wedding gift to them. I waived any rent and asked instead that they just paid utilities and property taxes. That way I didn't need to dip into Calvin's trust fund to maintain the second residence.

I stepped up to one of the huge windows overlooking the hustle and bustle of the city I loved below me and sighed when warm arms wrapped around me from behind. I leaned back into Jane and inhaled her scent. I think I'm ready now, but to my chagrin, the tables had turned, and now it was Jane wanting to wait to make sure I knew what I was in for.

  She whispered, “How you doing?”

  I snuggled back. “Fine.”

  She nodded. “Fine.”

She kissed the top of my head as Calvin twined his way through and around our legs, his tail wagging. And I knew that whatever the future held for us, I just knew that the three of us would face it together.

  Damn, what a spectacular day!
