“Fantasia!” I yelled hoping she would see me in my time of need. We certainly weren’t friends but she was the only person I could kind of trust in this place. “Fantasia!” I yelled again and this time she looked up. She looked at me slightly concerned and I hoped that meant that I could trust her. “I need to get out here” She didn’t respond so I yelled, “I’m leaving.”

Fantasia smiled at me trying to calm my nerves I assumed, “You don’t need to get out.” She touched me on the face but when I tried to back away I didn’t feel like I could. “Don’t you want to say here and party with us? You need a drink. Who can get this beautiful girl a drink?”

“I need a drink,” I said. But somewhere deep inside me I didn’t want to drink, I wanted to go home, but for some odd reason I couldn’t express my true feelings. One of her entourage took me over to the bar near the DJ booth and gave me a cold shot of vodka. He looked at me as if though he’d never seen a girl drink like me before.

“You’re different.” He said in an enthusiastic voice.

  “I feel different.”

“Isn’t this place the best? I’ve been coming here for weeks. I fucking love to be with Fantasia. There are other beautiful girls here too, and guys.”

I nodded at him. Great, she sent me away with someone who was just dying to get laid.

“I saw who you were dancing with earlier.”

  “Which one?”

He cocked his head at me again, “Derek. You don’t know who Derek is? You two looked so good when you were making out.”

Someone had watched me make out with a man I had just met. I was in my own personal hell.

  “Why should I know Derek?”

“He’s one of the owners of this place. And he never dances with any girls. Fantasia says he’s very particular.”

He gave me a look like I should know what that meant and walked away so I downed the last of my vodka and thought about it. Why had this Derek guy picked me to dance with? What was it about me? Why had he said all those things in the private room? Thinking about the private rooms led me back to Jimmy. What terrible encounter I had witnessed. When I finished my drink I was once again alone but I didn’t feel the need to leave as quickly as I had before. Maybe there was a story here. Some weird sex and blood ritual. That could be a whole new spin on things. I looked for my phone again but realized that I had dropped it back at the wall. I made my way through the people in order to pick it up and take a few more notes and maybe a few more pictures before I would make my exit. While I was looking around the floor in the darkness to find it Fantasia came up behind me. “Did you enjoy your drink?”

I nodded at her, “Yeah, I’m just looking for my phone. I really do need to go. Jimmy even said so.”

She held it up in her hands, “I found it over here before. I was just looking for you to give it back. But what did you just say about Jimmy?”

I tried to grab the book but she held if firmly just out of reach.

“He said I had to go. He told me…” I thought back but the scene was fuzzy. “I don’t remember.”

Her eyes were wide. “When did you see Jimmy? Here? Or in a private room?”

“A private room, it was dark, but the girl said his name.”

She shook her head, “That worthless mother fucker. Let’s go, you’re coming with me.”

She grabbed me by the upper arm. I attempted to protest but it was futile.

  “Where are we going?”

“I’m taking you to my private room,” she snapped, clearly annoyed with the situation.

  “You have your own room?”

“Oh darling,” she said, “haven’t you figured out who I am yet? I’m the boss’s girlfriend. The one I take it you just saw screwing some other girl.” She stomped up a set of steps leading to the Djs booth and she adragged be behind her, but when we passed by him and walked to a different door he didn’t even seem to notice me. This door was marked unlike any other I had seen that night. It displayed a giant red X across the front. She again typed in a code and the door opened.

The floor was hard beneath my feet and the room had hardly any light. I realized we were in some sort of office as Fantasia sat me on a leather sofa in front of a large desk.

I pulled out my phone took a few quick pictures, I tried to remain discreet. This was such a different scene than the club we had just been in less than a minute ago. We may have even been a completely different building and the clientele here was much different as well. I watched with wide eyes as Fantasia walked over to two men arguing quietly on the far side of the room.

“Gentlemen, is that any way to speak in front of a lady?”

A man I immediately recognized as Jimmy, smiled at her devilishly, “I don’t see any ladies here.” He smacked her on the ass playfully and she laughed lightly clearly fulfilling her role. This was all just an act for her, she played a part in a much bigger show. The other man ran his fingers through his jet black hair. I recognized him immediately from the dance floor. He was the man who kissed me, Derrick. The man who said he knew me. He was younger but at the same time he appeared more mature than the other two. I tried searching his lips for answers but he was too far away for me to get a good look at him. The only thing I did notice were his eyes. The shining blue almost glowing in the dim light. Still reeling me in. He lifted his head and rubbed his neck almost as if he could sense my presence without seeing me but he didn’t look in my direction.

Jimmy spoke again, “Derrick and I were just discussing business. You know how these things can get heated from time to time.”

Fantasia moved closer to him and he wrapped his arm around her waist. “Jimmy, we need to talk. Things are about get heated with us.” She batted at him playfully but I noticed that she made sure not to disturb his perfectly ironed gray suit.

  “Why’s that?”

“I know what you were up to tonight. I know who you were with.”

Jimmy immediately looked to the sofa. I turned around to face the desk but once again I had been caught.

He sighed, “I thought I sent that problem home.”

“Were you feeding in front of her? In front of a human?” she whispered, but just loud enough I could hear.

Derek’s head snapped up. “Jimmy what the hell were you thinking?”

“I was thinking she wasn’t there. And I was thinking it was handled.” Jimmy scowled at me.

Fantasia rolled her eyes, “Don’t pretend you weren’t just putting on a show. Or that you couldn’t sense her, I mean God I can smell her clear across the room!”

I chewed on my lower lip trying to determine the best course of action but as I mulled over a plan the door suddenly flew open and a woman stood breathless in the shadow of the doorway.

“Clarissa, what’s the matter?” Fantasia crossed the room gracefully and placed a hand on the newcomer. She was beautiful in her own right, but compared to Fantasia she appeared to be just another girl. Dark brown bangs hid her eyes but I could tell she was crying. Her outfit, a bedazzled yellow bra and skirt looked as if it had been thrown on quickly. She had come from a private room.

  “Oh Fantasia it’s awful.”

Jimmy looked at her concerned, “Well get on with it. What’s happened?”

Dark tears streamed down her wrinkled face. The rusty taste of metal filled my mouth, she was crying tears of blood.

“There’s been an accident, or something. I don’t know.” She struggled to find her composure. “A girl is dead!” She shrieked crumbling to floor clearly exhausted by her emotional journey.

Derek’s head snapped up. “What kind of girl?”

Clarissa shook her head, “A human! I was in a room with Rowan.” She paused for a moment clearly leaving out less important details of her story. “And just when we were getting started she was there on the floor! It was awful, she was shaking and her eyes rolled back in her head.”

Fantasia turned on Jimmy in a second. “Is this your doing?”

  Jimmy put
his hands up in surrender. “No! I gave her the shot when I was done. That girl was fine.”

I couldn’t help myself, “She was not fine. She was screaming at you to stop! I don’t know what the hell you think you all are doing here but it’s sick, and I’m calling the police.” I quickly whipped out my phone and started dialing 911, but before I could press SEND Fantasia had crossed the room and taken it from me. I didn’t even see her do it. Just a moment and then a rush of wind and it was gone. “Give that back.”

She shook her head. “You’ve been a naughty girl. I think you need to be punished. Derek take her home.”

“Home? You’re going to let me go?” I was elated but reserved.

“No darling, you’re going to our home.” She looked pointedly at Derek, “In the cells. Don’t you dare even think about freeing either, or I will know. And then I will rip your fucking throat out.”

Derek bowed his head and walked over dutifully to stand beside me. He took my upper arm and started to pull me away. I resisted the best I could but he was too strong. My attempt to struggle was futile.

“Don’t try to fight me, you’ll never win,” he said, sounding tired.

“I need my phone.” I reached back towards Fantasia.

“Oh honey you won’t need this where you’re going.” She crumbled it in her hand like it was paper. Broken pieces of my lifeline fell to the floor. I was stunned at her strength.

“Why?” I yelled back at her as Derek hauled me away.

“Because darling, where you’re going, you won’t be coming back,” she sneered.

  Oh shit.
