“Emma deserves the best,” Honor said, her chin setting with determination.

“Okay. Okay. I give up. I will go get Noah and then we will meet you at the bakery,” he said. “But tonight, woman? You are all mine.”

Honor laughed. “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said, brushing a kiss across the sensitive line of his neck.

After completing her GED, Honor had gone on to get a Baking and Pastry Certificate from their county college. She and Spence were in the process of opening a bakery next to the old mill on Main Street. Hummingbird Bakery still provided all the desserts for Emma’s restaurant in addition to a variety of sweet treats and delicacies. She already had her own wedding cake planned out and was itching to begin baking it.

“Is that such a good thing? My two men with sugar cravings joining me on baking night?” she asked as they climbed into the car.

Spence’s eyes turned serious for a moment. “Is there anywhere else you’d rather us be?”

Honor shook her head, smiling. Content.

Life was good. Maybe her story hadn’t had a clear beginning, middle or end. Maybe it was messed up by mixed emotions and human frailty, like the email she had received from her mother accepting the invitation to her wedding.

She loved her mother despite their history.

But maybe life was about not always knowing. Taking this moment – whatever moment she was given – and making the best of it without knowing the future.

  The end.
