Enigma: Awakening Page 28

by Damien Taylor

“I knew you’d pull through, boss.” Sergio and Nova applauded.

“Let’s go. There’ll soon be nothing left on this land. This city, too, will be taken by the Abyssians,” said Irvina.

We headed a mile across town to the docks, several Foxes waiting at the port. Many men, along with their families, boarded the boat—two hundred people successfully contacted across Memoria. The line wrapped a building. As it came time for us to board, I took a last look at Memoria. It was hard to say the Abyssians had conquered the land I once grew up on.

But I had to accept Irvina’s words—I would accept them, but only until the day I would return to see it liberated—for it was a festering prisoner. I will come back. I looked to the Evanda Criét, leaving a barren place behind me, as I started on a new part of my journey, where we would find more pages that explained all of this. More orbs.

“Winn, come on. We’re outta’ here,” Sergio beckoned from the ship deck. I was the final passenger. When I hopped onto the bridge of the grand war vessel, my glorious abode for the last ten years, faces of exhilarant valor greeted me—faces of men exalted as immortal salvagers.
