It’s killing me for us to be apart
We still have a lot of loving left to do
Because you’re the music of my heart
And it’s killing me for us to be apart
No matter how hard I try
I can’t sing without you
And finishing our song is all I really wanna do
When he was done singing, his mouth tightened into a flat line. I could tell he was anxious to hear what I was going to say.
Rising to my feet, I opened the door that connected to the actual recording area of the studio. “You forgot a line,” I told him.
He took a few steps closer. “What’s that?”
“I’m sorry that half the world has seen your lady bits,” I half-sang for him. “But I get why. It’d be a tough lyric to add in.”
He studied my face, obviously unsure if I was joking or not. I totally was. If I couldn’t joke about it, it was going to be another elephant in the room, hovering over us if we wanted ‘us’ to work. And I so wanted us to work.
“We can, uh, work it in, if you really want,” he said finally. “I was planning to call it ‘Our Song’, but if you’d rather name it ‘Streaking,’ or ‘Mooning,’ or something like that, I always can.”
I giggled. “We are not going to give that amazing song that you wrote for me an awful name like that.”
He smiled, the muscles in his face finally relaxing. “Good. I wasn’t really fond of the idea myself.”
I let out another giggle.
“You’re laughing and not trying to bite my head off, so I guess that’s a good sign?” he asked, setting his guitar down.
“I’d say.” I paused and then asked, “Now what?”
“Well, I have something to ask you.” He took a few steps forward and then got down on one knee. “Viola Pierce…”
A million thoughts went through my mind. Was he about to propose to me?
He pulled out a small box then, only confirming my suspicions. He was going to propose to me.
Oh, god.
He stared up into my eyes. “Will you write my next song with me?”
Opening the box, he revealed the hot pink guitar pick that was nestled inside.
I grinned. “There’s nothing I want more.”
