  I am also indebted to Eiríkur Valdimarsson and Sigurður Gylfi Magnússon who taught the course “Lice Combs, Chamber Pots and Sex: Customs, Traditions and Daily Life in the Rural Society of Iceland” in the spring term of 2012 at the University of Iceland, which truly opened my eyes to the fascinating ways of the Icelanders in the old days.

  About the author

  Alda Sigmundsdóttir is a writer, journalist, translator and blogger. She is the author of three other books: Unraveled – a Novel About a Meltdown, The Little Book of the Icelanders, and Living Inside the Meltdown. In addition, Alda has published a book of Icelandic folk tales in English translation, entitled Icelandic Folk Legends – Tales of Apparitions, Outlaws and Things Unseen. She has also written extensively about Iceland for the international media. Alda currently lives in Reykjavík.
