“No one expects that you quit playing ball,” Ellie forced herself to say, pulling her hand off of his chest and moving away from him. Finally, Mitch looked away from the ceiling, taking notice of the pain that he was causing.
Ellie moved to the edge of the bed and sat up, she hated herself, she had known better than to let him into her bed, she knew she should have never even let him stay at her house. Why do I let myself get into these situations, she asked herself as she stood and grabbed her robe.
“I’m going to take a shower,” she turned, away from Mitch as she spoke. She didn’t want to look at him, in fact, she never wanted to look at him again. All she wanted to do was to get away from him and never lay her eyes on him again.
“Ellie, wait,” he said, struggling to get out of the bed, but was tangled in the sheets. He fell into the floor as Ellie walked out of the door. Rolling her eyes, she struggled not to laugh at him as she headed to the shower.
Ellie, stepped into the shower, the hot water, rushed down her body washing away the evidence of the night before. Tears flowed down her cheeks, not for her, but for Micah. She had loved the idea of having Mitch around, of course, thinking that there was some chance that they could give Micah the family that she deserved and that she would not have to spend her life alone.
The tears, however, were because of the pain that she knew Micah would have to face as she grew up. Pain that would be caused from not having her father around from feeling that she was not loved or wanted by the man that helped to create her.

Ellie heard Micah call for her as she was stepping out of the shower. She quickly dressed and brushed her hair before heading out of the bathroom, but was surprised to find Micah already in the living room with Mitch.
“You know,” Mitch said, looking up at her, “if I didn’t know better, I would say you were a spoiled princess storming out like that without hearing me out.”
“Princess,” Micah interrupted, causing her father to smile.
“You are a princess Micah,” Ellie said, sitting down, “just like the ones in the stories.”
Micah began to dance around the living room, still in her night clothes, carefree and completely happy.
“I am anything but spoiled,” Ellie said, lowering her voice, “I have been the one that has been here all along taking care of her. I am the one that made all of the sacrifices. Do you know what I had to give up? And you sit there worried about a silly game.”
It was obvious to Mitch that Ellie was angry, but he was not going to let her play the victim. “You live the life you chose to live,” he stated bluntly, “you chose not to contact me, not to even let me know that she existed. Everything that happened to you happened because you let it.”
Ellie sat back on the sofa, shaking her head as she crossed her arms. He would never understand and it was becoming more and more obvious to her that he didn’t even want to.
“I want us to spend the day with Micah,” Mitch finally said, after several moments of silence, “I want to make sure that she has fun.”
Ellie pressed her lips together, refusing to speak her opinion, knowing that it would only make him angry. “Fine,” she replied, “I have to go back to work tomorrow and would like to spend the day with my daughter.”
“Great,” Mitch said, standing up, “I am off for the next couple of days. I mean I have to practice for a few hours each evening but I want to watch her while you are at work.”
Ellie’s eyes grew wide, there was no way she was just going to leave her daughter with him. “Micah goes to a daycare while I am at work. Don’t worry about watching her, I’m not sure that you are ready for that.”
“Really, Ellie,” Mitch’s voice began to grow louder, “you don’t think that I am ready to take care of my daughter?”
Mitch walked over to Ellie and grabbed her arm, pulling her to her feet, “We need to talk now,” he demanded and all but drug Ellie to the other side of the room.
“I know that you are mad at me,” he said in a low tone when he finally stopped pulling her, “I don’t know what your problem is but I know it has something to do with baseball. I really don’t care what you are mad about, you will get over it, but you are not going to keep me away from her now that I know she exists.”
“For your information,” Ellie tried to control her voice but struggled. Micah turned her head and looked at her parents. “Go ahead and play baby,” Ellie smiled at her daughter, “Everything is okay.”
Micah quickly turned her attention back to her toys, unaware of what was going on between her parents.
“I am not mad at you about baseball,” Ellie said, looking back at Mitch, “I am mad at you for not thinking about Micah. You are only thinking about yourself.”
Mitch’s face grew red, he pushed himself against Ellie, forcing her to take a step back pinning her against the wall. She was beginning to hate when he did that to her, it made her feel as if she was completely out of control.
“I am not putting myself ahead of my daughter,” he growled in her ear, “I never said that I was going to do anything like that. I plan on being here with her, the entire time that I am not working, but I didn’t think I would have to explain that to you!”
Mitch was right, he shouldn’t have had to explain any of it to her, but she needed to hear him say it.
Ellie lowered her head and leaned into Mitch’s chest. She felt like a fool, she could not believe how stupid she had been and she realized how easily she could have pushed him out of Micah’s life.
Mitch wrapped his arms around her, he understood what a roller coaster of emotions she had to deal with over the past few days and did not blame her for the way she had behaved. After all, she was just looking out for their daughter.
The two spent the rest of the day with their daughter, they enjoyed the amusement park, a picnic lunch and when the day was done, Mitch took them out to dinner at Micah’s favorite pizza restaurant.
Ellie loved watching the two of them, she loved how they played, how they laughed together and how happy her daughter looked.
That evening, when the three arrived back at Ellie’s house, Mitch carried Micah into the house, she had fallen asleep in the car. “You really are amazing with her,” Ellie smiled at Mitch as he walked back into her living room.
“She is amazing,” Mitch replied, sitting down next to Ellie, “I never thought I could fall in love with someone so fast or love them as much as I do that little girl.
That was all Ellie really needed to hear. Seeing Mitch with their daughter, filled her heart with joy, even though she had been angry at Mitch earlier, she could not deny how she felt about him and when she saw the two of them together, her heart swelled with love.

“I should have never left town after I met you,” Mitch said as the two of them lay in bed that evening, “you really were the best woman I have ever met, and I have met a lot of women.” Mitch laughed a bit as he looked at Ellie.
“I really could have done without knowing that last part,” she teased. The truth was, she had already known it. She knew it when she first met him that night after the baseball game and she had known it the entire time she had been raising their daughter on her own.
Her only hope at this point was that Micah was going to make the difference because she knew in her heart that no matter how hard she tried, she would never be able to change him.
Mitch continued to laugh, causing Ellie to smile. She loved how he thought he was funny, she loved watching him as he struggled to hold his eyes open.
“You don’t mind me staying here when I’m not working right,” Mitch mumbled, trying to stay awake.
“What do you mean?”
“I just think that it is best if I am here as much as possible, you know, give her a real family so she can grow up normal.”
“Yeah,” Ellie replied, leaning back onto her own pillow. Mitch gave her a lot to think about. It seemed like things were moving a bit too fast
as if he was ready to jump into being a family faster than Ellie was comfortable with. Yet, there was a bit of excitement in thinking that he was going to belong completely to them.
“Unless you’re not okay with that,” Mitch rolled over and placed his arm around Ellie, breathing in her scent and pulling her close as he fell asleep.
Ellie lay awake for several hours thinking about what Mitch had said. She really did like the idea of having Mitch around, it was what was best for Micah, and she knew that her fears had nothing to do with Mitch, it was about her fear of commitment.
The next thing Ellie knew, she was laying on her side. She could feel Mitch pulling her against him. Holding her body tight against his. “Ellie,” he whispered in her ear, gentling kissing her as he spoke, “are you awake.”
Ellie groaned, she could barely hold her eyes open, but she could not fall asleep having his body so close to her own.
“You know,” he whispered, running his hand over her body, “I think we could make this work.”
Ellie closed her eyes, sighing with relief it was what she had always wanted to hear.
She turned to him, gently kissing him, their bodies pressed together. She could not deny her desire, every inch of her begged for his touch, but she did not want to seem over enthusiastic, she did not want him to think this was something she was used to doing.
Mitch kissed her chin, his fingers trailed down her neck to her chest. It was dark, but Ellie could see the beads of sweat forming on his forehead already. She had made sure that the house was cooler than the night before and instantly knew what those beads of sweat meant.
Ellie smiled, knowing that Mitch was struggling just as much as she was being so close to her.
“Are you sore,” Mitch asked, lovingly, moving a strand of hair from in front of her eyes.
“Of course, I am,” she teased, pressing her hips against his, “but I bet that has never stopped you before.” Ellie loved that he was able to show that he cared, that he was taking her into consideration, instead of just jumping on top of her.
Ellie sat up in the bed, lifting her gown above her head, exposing her pale white skin and large breasts to him. Pressing her hands against his shoulders, Ellie gently pushed him back onto the bed and threw one of her legs over his hips.
She quickly picked up his hands and placed them on her breasts, allowing him to cup them. Mitch gave them a gentle squeeze as Ellie looked into his eyes. She could tell it was killing him to have her sit on him that way. Mitch was the type of man that always wanted to be in control, the type that would never be dominated.
Ellie rocked her hips against his, feeling the hard bulge growing even larger as she teased him. She was surprised to find that she was becoming even more turned on and wondered if she was not teasing herself more than him but when she looked down at him, she knew that was not true.
Mitch’s muscles were tight, the veins popped out on his neck and his breathing was erratic. “I want you,” Mitch moaned, grasping her around the waist.
Before she knew it, Mitch had flipped her over on the bed. He grabbed Ellie’s knees and pushed them up around his waist, quickly sliding inside of her. Ellie threw her head back as pleasure shot through her body. Mitch quickly picked up the pace, thrusting into her hard, but Ellie did not mind. She met his thrusts, matching his pace and it was only a matter of minutes before he was filling her with his come.
Ellie’s body shook from the intense pleasure. Mitch fell onto the bed, gasping for air as his body recovered. “That was amazing,” he managed to get out.
Ellie couldn’t speak, she tried to nod her head, but she was lost in ecstasy. It had only lasted a few moments but it was the most intense few moments of her life.
Already, as her body began to calm, she was ready for more. Her body, however, was completely exhausted.
“Do you think we can make this work,” he asked her, his voice deep and serious.
“I don’t know,” Ellie, stammered, trying to focus on his question and not on the way her body was feeling, “all we can do is try.” The answer satisfied Mitch, he couldn’t have asked for anything more from her.
This was what had been missing in her life, not the sex, that was amazing and she loved it, but it was the closeness with Mitch, having someone that she could connect with on a deeper level than just the physical that she desired so much in her life, even though she never knew she wanted it.
It was pure love that she had been missing in her life, it was unlike the love that she had for her daughter in many ways but in other ways, it was the same.
Mitch lay on the bed beside her, holding her tight under the covers, his steady breathing lulling her to sleep. Everything in her life was perfect and as she began to drift off to sleep, he swore that nothing would change that. He may have missed the first two years of his daughter’s life but he was not going to miss a single moment more.
Wishing he could go back in time and take back many of the things that he had done, there was one thing that he did not regret and it was that first night that he spent with Ellie in the palace rose garden. He would never regret his beautiful daughter or any time that the beautiful woman in his arms would allow him to have with her.
