  Miranda: Are you dressing up?

Sienna: I have a new top to wear.

Miranda: I might bring a dress.

Sienna: Great. Sharon and Ness are tarting up as well. Arsehole what’s-his-face dumped Ness. We’re going to hook her up with a surfer or something.

Miranda: Sounds like fun. Can I have a surfer too?

  Sienna: I think Carlton surfs.

Miranda’s blush fires up again. Her heart is thumping too.

Miranda: Don’t tease me. I’m having bad enough thoughts already.

There’s a pause while Miranda stares at her screen.

Sienna: The guy’s totally into you Mi. It’s not wrong to enjoy that a little bit.

Miranda: Except for what I already told you.

Sienna: And that’s not going to hurt Adin getting a bit jealous. It might do him good.

Miranda doesn’t reply. Her girlfriend is always like this. She’s unhappily married and flirts terribly with just about any man who looks her way.

Sienna: Men love competition, Mi. Just enjoy. See you tomorrow.

The front door opens and Adin walks in drenched from washing the car. “Hey, baby, you okay?”

“Huh? I’m fine,” Miranda says, rubbing her neck.

“You look a bit flushed. Do you want a cold beer?”

“Um – yes please….” Miranda follows her husband into the kitchen and cuddles up to him.

He chuckles into her kiss. “Hey, I like all this smooching today.”

“Well, I love you to bits, so you get smooches. It’s just how it works.”

“Yeah? And there’s not something you want? Something you’ve done that you have to make up to me for?”

Miranda’s blush fires up again but she presses her guilty face to her husband’s chest and thinks of a fib to tell him. “Actually, I want to go out with the girls tomorrow night, so you have to let me spend over budget a bit.”

Adin laughs. “See, I knew there was something.”

“Yes – you got me…. Is it okay, though? Just a couple of drinks and I won’t stay out late.”

“Sure, baby. Do you want me to chauffeur you?”

“No it’s okay. I’ll keep under the limit. It’s only work-night drinks. I’m sure the others will be behaving themselves too.”

Adin twists open a couple of beers and the topic of conversation for the afternoon revolves mostly around their tight budget and trying to plan ways to update the car and replace the fridge and washing machine. The appliances were hand-me-downs from Adin’s parents and are on their way out. The car is just out of warranty and their policy is to try to keep the model updated for safety and reliability. Their apartment is expensive, but it’s right in the city and they don’t want to move out to the suburbs until they have kids to school.

Miranda finds the car spotless and smelling lovely the next morning for her drive across town to work. It’s a dozen blocks to the city high-rise and ocean. Her work is on the ground floor of one of the business towers. Sienna has the morning off, so she’s alone in the open office area. There are a team of a dozen estate agents with partitioned cubicles. They spend most of their time out and about. Miranda is ready to go to lunch when Carlton James slides onto the edge of her desk, smiling down at her.

Carlton is a nicely built blond-haired guy who would pass for a surfer if not for his finely cut suit. His teeth are perfect. “Hey, beautiful, how’s your day going?”

“It’s Miranda, not beautiful. My day’s going fine. Or it was.” Miranda loses the battle against her own smile.

“So, what do you ladies call me when I’m not around? I could answer to gorgeous or hunky or something if you like.”

Miranda giggles. “How about Mr Slick – would that work?”

“Perfect. Although cut the Mister. That’s too formal for us now that we’re getting on so well. Slick will do.”

“Hmm – it certainly suits,” Miranda says, blushing and fumbling with some papers on her desk while the guy looks at her breasts. She has worn a black lace bra for him and has the top button of her blouse open. She glances up and rolls her eyes away. He’s staring blatantly.

“That’s pretty, Miranda.” His voice is low and deep.

She shakes her head. “You’re so bad, Carlton…. I’m on my lunch break. I’m going now.”

Miranda gets up and walks away, imagining the man’s eyes on her bottom. There’s a tiny black thong beneath her skirt that matches the bra. It’s a set Adin bought her one birthday a few years ago. She’s feeling terribly guilty but can’t resist a glance back over her shoulder as she leaves the office – disappointment filling her as she sees Carlton distracted by one of the other agents.

That afternoon passes in a daze for Miranda. Sienna is chatty but easily appeased with general agreement to whatever she says. Miranda changes into her little black dress after work and they stroll across the street and along a bit to The Boardwalk bar, where the dress code is quickly changing from beach casual to a mix of work day professional and evening party wear.

A couple of drinks relaxes Miranda and has her giggling and chatting with her girlfriends – the group of four oblivious to anyone around them. Ness is seriously hurting from her breakup and not in the mood for any kind of banter about men. The girls instead close ranks and talk more about work than anything else.

“Evening, co-workers,” Carlton greets them with a smile.

“Hey, you, this is girls only!” Sienna tells him flatly.

Everyone laughs. Miranda forces hers, as the guy is leaning close beside her.

“No, I wouldn’t dream of trying to party crash,” Carlton says. “I’m actually still working.” He shows his iPad. “I’ll be over in the corner there with a beer. Just didn’t want to be rude and ignore you lovely ladies…. Have a great night.”

He strolls away. Miranda refuses to meet his glance. She glares at Sienna, who smiles with mock innocence in reply. Twenty minutes later, Susan takes Ness home and Miranda rolls her eyes from where Carlton is sitting and glares accusingly at her friend again.

“Well, you said you wanted a surfer!” Sienna says. “And I didn’t exactly invite him. I might have just mentioned we were coming here for drinks – that’s all.”

“Ooh but he really gets to me, Sienna. This is bad…. This is really bad.”

“Oh, don’t be silly. It’s harmless fun. And I’ll bet Adin could use a bit of a wakeup call – get his testosterone flowing…. Seriously, these man love to compete for us.”

The idea of Adin surging with testosterone strikes Miranda’s interest given his possible fertility issue. She shakes that idea off and warns her friend, “But this is no joke, Sienna. Adin could seriously hurt another man if it came down to it. He’s a really good fighter. He cleaned up these two men who tried to harass us one time. They didn’t stand a chance against him and they were both big strong men.”

“Oh really?” Sienna sings with interest. “So, Adin’s a bad arse?”

“No – he’s really nice and peaceful and polite…. But he knows how to handle himself and he’s not scared of fighting at all…. I wouldn’t want to be the man who tried to take me away from him.”

“Oh wow – this is great,” Sienna goes on excitedly. “This is even better than I thought…. Hell – let them fight over you. That’s man’s business. We don’t have to worry about that. We just get to be the one being fought over. That’s hot!”

“Yeah maybe, but it’s dangerous. It’s playing with fire,” Miranda argues without conviction. The mental picture of Adin and Carlton fighting over her is making her pussy tingle. And she’s already wet from continually looking over to where Carlton is sitting eating a meal and working on his iPad.

“Hmm – well, I think you should definitely play up to this a little bit if Adin has already mentioned not liking you getting attention. You should mention that Carlton was here at the bar tonight, even though he’s totally ignored us.”

Miranda checks on Carlton again. “R
eally? Do you think I should?”

“Definitely! Then tomorrow at work you have to tell me how he reacted. I want to know if he gets forceful and fucks you nice and hard.”

  Miranda glares. “Sienna!”

“Oh come on – this is so exciting and my life is boring as…. You have to share a little bit. Please? Just some harmless details?”

“But what am I supposed to say, exactly? That Carlton crashed our girls’ night?”

“Oop here he comes now,” Sienna says. “Look – I’m going to take off and leave you here with him. Just relax and have fun with it. Then just tease Adin with some select details.”

“What? You can’t just leave me here with him!”

Sienna giggles as she gets up. “Sorry, sweetie, you’re on your own.”

“Ladies, what happened to the party?” Carlton asks, stopping beside Miranda.

“It’s over…. I’ve got to run too…. Make sure Miranda gets safely to her car please, Carlton?” Sienna gives Miranda a big teasing smile and flashes away.

“What – leaving already? It’s only nine,” Carlton says as Miranda stands.

“Well, I can’t drink anymore. I’m driving,” she tells him.

“Oh come on – what about a coffee? We’ll stop in at Coco’s on the way to your car, eh?”

“Hmm – I guess a coffee would work,” Miranda says, and her heart flutters as the guy places his hand upon her waist to guide her toward the street.

  Chapter 4

Adin flicks off the television and checks the time. It’s 9.30 and he’s nowhere near tired. He pours a fresh whisky and heads to his desk in the spare room. He opens his laptop and rubs his face while it boots up. There’s an email from Wesley. It’s just a few words reiterating how important secrecy is, and a link to his naturalist resort website. Adin clicks the link and browses what looks like a pretty classy set up with small bungalows for accommodation and a restaurant quality dining room off a huge pool and deck. The lake is pristine and there’s a small sandy beach with a jetty and some pleasure craft moored. The rates are pricey – the theme obviously up-market.

Adin forwards the email to Miranda’s account. She had asked what the name of the resort was, which prompted Adin to ask his uncle.

This sudden contact and interest from Wesley strikes Adin as a bit odd. They’ve never really been close. Wesley is secretive about all things, not just his open sex life. Adin finds himself searching around for more information about his uncle online. He finds him registered with a handful of different company names – some up front property investments and others a bit vague in what they’re line of business is. There looks like some art dealing. Adin hits a few firewalls and has to hack through some security but finds some suspect connections to offshore enterprises and the like. He logs on to his work database and scrolls through some taxation files he’s dealt with over the years and browses the endless lists of investigations undertaken by his department. Adin’s work is with the tax office as a junior investigator. He matches some of the subsidiary company names and maps out tenuous connections with his uncle but nothing direct or concrete.

It’s 10.15 when the front door opens, and Adin shuts his laptop and yawns. He strolls out to the kitchen to find his lovely wife drinking a glass of water. “Wow, I didn’t realize you wore that, sweetheart. You look fantastic.”

“Oh….” Miranda looks down at her little black dress and stockings. Her stilettos are lying on the floor on their side. She does a pirouette. “Do you like?”

Adin approaches and touches her waist. “Have I seen this one before? That’s a sexy cut up top.” Miranda’s breasts are a heavy C-cup with only a slight natural sag. Her torso is slender and sets them off nicely at any time. The cut of her dress plunges to offer a lot of cleavage.

“I haven’t worn it in a while,” she says, plucking at the neckline.

Adin cuddles her from behind and kisses her neck. She tilts for him. He rubs from her hips down to her crotch and presses with both sets of fingers. She clutches his wrists. “Adin!”

“What? You look so hot, baby.” Adin sucks on her soft skin and lifts one hand to her belly while reaching further down with the other. She rubs her face back against him and grips his arm tighter. He touches the top of a stocking and rubs the soft clammy skin of her upper-thigh. “Aw fuck that feels sexy,” he groans into her neck, and he touches the crotch of her panties. They’re sopping wet. He jerks his hand away. “Fuck!”

His wife grips his arm again and pulls his hand back up to her belly. She’s trying to kiss him back over her shoulder. He lifts his head and glares at her. “What?” she asks, blushing.

“Why are you so wet? Your panties are soaked.”

Miranda just smiles stupidly. “Huh? Are they really?”

Adin frowns his concern. “What’s going on, baby? What happened?”

“Nothing happened. I’ve just been feeling sexy is all.”

Adin nearly asks if the wetness is all from his wife but pulls himself up before the words blurt out. He swallows hard and manages a smile. “So, you had a good night, then? You girls have been misbehaving, have you?”

“Hmm – it was a fun night. Ness was really sad over her breakup with Victor but we cheered her up.” Miranda has turned and is demanding more kisses. She takes Adin’s hand and turns away, smiling back over her shoulder as she leads him to the bedroom.

Adin’s concern vanishes. He pushes his clothing off and unzips the little dress barely concealing his wife’s black lace underwear. That is stripped and tossed aside, and they crawl onto the bed together and fuck hard.

Fifteen minutes later they’re lying side by side on their backs holding hands. Miranda releases a big breath. “Could you get me another glass of water please, Adin?”

Adin goes and gets a drink himself and brings one back to the bedroom. Miranda comes from the bathroom wearing a sleep-tee. He pulls on boxers and sits beside her, propped up in bed. She meets his eyes and can’t control a grin and little blush.

“You were seriously hot, baby…. I can’t believe how wet you were.”

“I’m wetter now,” she tosses back.

Adin chuckles. Her eyes roll away and she shakes her head.

“Okay – I need to tell you something, Adin, but it’s a bit freaky and you have to hear me out.”

Adin’s heart thumps. He feels the heat rise to his face. “Okay….” he says, swallowing hard.

“Okay….” Miranda gulps a big mouthful of water and puts the glass on her bedside cabinet. She rakes back her long dark hair and shifts to be facing Adin with her legs bent up to one side. She takes a big breath. “So – the thing is you were right about that new guy at work. He’s not trying to get onto every woman at the office – just me, it seems.”

“Fucking Carlton, huh? And what about him trying to get onto you, baby?”

“Wait. Don’t get angry,” Miranda demands. “Nothing happened and nothing is going to happen…. I just want to talk with you about him.”

“Was he there tonight – at the bar?” Adin’s throat is tight. There’s a knot in it. His voice is harsh.

“Adin – stop it! Just let me explain, please?”

  “Okay. Sorry….”

Miranda huffs a breath and shakes her head. “Yes, he was at The Boardwalk, but not with us. He had a meal there and sat in a corner the whole time working on his iPad.” Miranda’s eyes lower for an instant before she adds, “He only approached us when we were leaving, and he just offered to walk me to the car.”

Adin has his mouth shut tight – his jaw clenched. He holds his wife’s eyes.

“And we just stopped at Coco’s for a quick coffee on the way…. And that’s all that happened.”

Adin nods stiffly. “So, why the big announcement? If it was just an innocent work colleague having coffee…? And why do you say I’m right that he’s seriously hitting on you?”

“Because he said a few things that are over the line,” Miranda says softly.

Adin’s gut clenches now but it’s not rage that is twisting it – not entirely. “Like what things?” he asks evenly.

“Nothing. Just typical guy bullshit about my dress and the cut of it – pretty much the way you just drooled over me, only it’s fine from you of course.”

“Yeah – hard to blame a guy for noticing you in that dress, baby.” Adin breathes more easily. It’s a kind of excitement masking his anger, or melding with it perhaps.

Miranda smiles. “Well, I also want to confess that it turned me on a bit…. Or a lot…. But I was thinking about how it would feel if the same thing happened to you.”

  “To me?”

“Yeah…. Like, who is the most attractive woman at your work? And don’t bother saying you never notice.”

  “Um…. Leanne Grieves.”

Miranda glares. “Shit that was fast…. You didn’t even have to think about it, scumbag.”

Adin shrugs with his smile. “Easy question.”

“Huh! Well okay – let’s say Leanne what’s-her-face had the hots for you and wet her panties every time you looked at her. How would you feel about that?”

Adin looks around searching for the right response.

“Yeah bullshit. You’d be over the fucking moon and strutting past her every five minutes,” Miranda scoffs. “Wouldn’t you?”

“Yeah, I guess…. As if that would ever happen.”

“No – but it’s exactly the same thing…. This Carlton guy is super-hot. It’s like he walked right out of a magazine with that perfect smile and ruffled blond hair…. What girl wouldn’t go weak at the knees with someone like that staring at them?”

Adin relaxes back against the bedhead. “Yeah, I can see your point, baby. I don’t blame you for feeling thrilled with the attention. You’re right that I would be too with the roles reversed.”

“Hmm – good.” Miranda scoots closer and cuddles up. “But why me, Adin? What the hell – I’m very happily married to you and I can’t imagine I’m giving off any vibes like that.”

“Yeah, but you’re hot, baby…. Maybe I should stop in and have a word with the guy tomorrow.”

“Oh shit – no! Please don’t do that, Adin. I can handle it.”
