“One night last week, she showed up here late,” Danette replied. “It was about midnight and she was really scared. She kept apologizing for it being so late and waking me up, but she wanted to spend the night here.”
“Why was she afraid?” Chad asked.
“She said that she felt like she was being watched,” Danette said. “She said that she was sitting at the bar in the kitchen and that she suddenly felt as if someone was watching her from her sliding glass doors. The feeling was so strong that she was too afraid to even approach the door to pull the blinds. So she said she got up from the bar chair and tried to act as normal as possible. As soon as she was out of the kitchen, she ran to her room, threw some things in an overnight bag, and ran to her car. She was terrified to go outside in case someone really was out there watching her, but she also knew she couldn’t stay there. So she took a chance and raced to her car and came straight here.”
“What happened after that?” Chad asked.
“Nothing really. The next morning she felt silly for having been so spooked. I’m sure it had something to do with being in the bright light of day, but she apologized profusely before she left.”
“Did she mention receiving any more gifts after the nighty?”
“No, she didn’t, and I know she would have told me if she had. We were always so close and told each other everything,” Danette said, as tears streamed down her cheeks. “I don’t know what I’m going to do without her.”
“Danette,” Eve said. “I do know how difficult this is for you. But we’re going to figure this out and find whoever hurt Sara. She was a good friend to me when I needed one the most, and I’m going to do everything possible to help her rest.”
“Thank you, Eve,” Danette said as she reached her hand out. “That means a lot.”
“We appreciate your time, Ms. Landers,” Chad said, as he wrapped up the interview. “Will you be available if we need to check back with you at some point?”
“Absolutely,” Danette said fiercely. “Anything I can do to help, Detective, I will do.”
“Thank you, Ms. Landers.”
Danette got up and walked them to the door.
“I’m so relieved that the police are taking Sara’s death seriously,” she said. “Thank you so much for looking into this.”
Chad seemed to be momentarily at a loss for words so Eve filled in.
“We want to do this, Danette. Sara was an amazing person and we’re just as outraged over this as you are. Don’t worry. We’ll find this murderer.”
As they walked back to Chad’s sedan, neither of them spoke, but once they were inside the vehicle, they looked at each other and started talking at once.
“So we’re looking for a stalker type person?” Eve asked.
“I’m not so sure it’s a stalker although there’s certainly stalking involved,” Chad replied.
“Yeah, this feels a little more personal to me,” Eve concurred. “It’s like the stalking was a way to terrorize her before the main event, which was killing her. That is so sick!”
“Now let’s put together what we know from Danette with your visions and your dreams. Sara was a target from the beginning but we don’t know why. And from what your dreams tell you, this asshole has already zeroed in on the next victim.”
“Yes, and apparently we don’t have much time to figure things out before the next murder happens. Did your team come up with anything like Danette was talking about? The nighty or any of the other gifts?”
“I’ll have to check in Evidence to see what they found,” Chad said. “Even if they did find things like that, they probably wouldn’t have taken it as anything out of place. But now that we have Danette’s information, we know what to look for.”
“Exactly!” Eve agreed. “Who’s next on the list to talk to?”
“Let me see,” Chad said, as he pulled out his phone and checked something. “Oh, yeah, here we go. A Ms. Stephanie Anderson, a co-worker and friend of Sara’s.”
“Her name sounds familiar,” Eve said. “Let’s go see what she has to say.”

About the Author
The moment Sandra Ross held her first romance novel when she was ten, she knew she was going to write romance. At thirty now, a prolific reader and a freelance writer, she's since then expanded her preferences from just romance to romance with a dash of now trending sub-genres--paranormal, fantasy, sci-fi even, and erotica. She loves challenging herself and would write on a dare. On a normal day, she would be found in her herb garden collecting spices for her kitchen or ingredients for her potions; in her huge eclectic Provencal kitchen with the big modern oven cooking pots and pans of food for her family of one husband and three kids (an ardent daughter and two boisterous sons) that'll probably last for weeks; in her library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and an e-reader in her hands as she reads the latest erotic hit; or scribbling pages upon pages of different erotic lifestyles, searching for the one that feels like it was inspired by just the right mix of passion, story line, and sex. Aside from these activities, the rest of the time she'd be found in front of her laptop typing the latest Sandra Ross concoction for her readers. Download other books by Sandra Ross
