  “Early reports say that the most recent grave is probably only a few weeks old.”

  “Really?” she breathed. An active serial killer and one who had been at it for a decade or more and still on the loose. Very interesting. “And the victims?”

  “Females and males, and it looks as if they were all runaways under the age of twenty.”

  “Oh, no.” She sat back, staring at him, already hurting for the families that would be getting hope-destroying news. “Preying on young people who were trying to find their way,” she said with a shake of her head. “That pervert needs to be tracked down and put away – for good.”

  “I agree.” He gave her a cagey look. “How do you feel about New Orleans?”

  “I love it,” she enthused. “Ghosts, spirits, séances, voodoo! It’s my kind of city.” She laughed and tipped up her chin. “I know what you’re thinking.”

  “Do you? Tell me.”

  “That this would be a perfect case for us to work on together,” she said, confidently. An emotion she couldn’t decipher scampered across his face and her heart skipped a beat. What had placed that mischievous sparkle in his eyes?

  “I agree that this would be an interesting case for us to tackle, but that’s not exactly what I was thinking, Tru.”

  “Oh?” Curiosity suddenly blazed inside her. “So, spill it.”

  He pushed aside the laptop, newspapers, and dessert plates and captured her hands in his. His cobalt eyes flirted with her. “I was thinking that New Orleans would be the perfect place for our honeymoon.”
