'Helen!' His breathing was heavy and uneven as he finally lay against her. 'The way you make me feel is impossible to describe.' He lifted his head to look into eyes that shone with happiness, his hand tracing her face, gently pushing back her damp hair. 'My ice-cold little wife,' he laughed shakily, 'you set me completely on fire.'

Helen cuddled against him, satisfied, content, and across the snowy fields the bells began to ring.

'It's a new year,' she whispered, happy tears flooding her eyes when she thought of what life had been like without him.

He kissed away the tears, knowing perfectly well what they were, as he knew everything about her. 'This is the year when you forget what fear is, forget what unhappiness is. This is the year when Tansy gets a sister.'

'Or a brother,' she whispered, smiling into his eyes, her own eyes wonderfully blue.

'Or a brother,' he agreed tenderly. 'Happy New Year, my darling.

His arms tightened around her, his lips finding her own, and Helen melted against him, two bodies that yearned together, two hearts that beat as one, perfect love and perfect happiness to face a brand-new life.
