  ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

Though this kind of book requires quite a different, wider-ranging, less interactive type of research from the biography and chronologies I have produced previously, I have been delighted to find that those stalwarts of all serious Dylan scholarship in the past four decades have again been there to lend a hand at every turn. I am referring to Mitch Blank, Glen Dundas, and Ian Woodward, to whom every Dylan fan should inwardly genuflect for their endeavours on our behalf.

Thanks, too, to David Bristow, who has continued to compile one of the more insanely complete collections of printed matter on the man, which he not only allowed me access to, but extended loans therefrom. Many thanks, and goodwill, to Jeff Rosen and Callie Gladman, at Special Rider, for their time and professionalism. And fulsome thanks, as ever, to that generous soul Glen Korman, who has again come to my aid whenever the Sony database has caused mystification.

The manuscript of the book has been read by no less than four editors, all of whom I thank for their feedback, belief, and encouragement in the face of a perplexing inability on publishers’ parts to see the need for a project on quite this scale: the redoubtable Tony Lacey, Andy Miller, Yuval Taylor, and Leo Hollis, as well as ex-Judas editor Andy Muir. And a final thanks to Jonathan Cott, who also believed. Enjoy.
