“Olivia,” Jacob said, his voice rough. “She shouldn’t see her like this.”
But Levi was already kneeling at the edge of the container, offering me his hand up. I grabbed his wrist and he hauled me up, setting me on my feet there at the edge of the container.
Ryker threw up his hands in frustration.
“What were you going to do?” I asked, my voice low.
“We were going to get her set up in the house,” Ryker growled. “What do you think?”
“I don’t know,” I said.
“Suddenly we’re monsters?” Ryker shook his head, furious. He brushed past me and jumped out of the back of the container, landing in a crouch, and then straightened. “I’m going to get the Rover to tow this up the driveway. Then we’ll need a ramp.”
“Sorry,” I said to his back, but it was too little, too late.
Maybe he couldn’t hear me anyway.
Either way, he didn’t turn back.
I looked back to my sister. So this was why she was free to come back and see me. They didn’t have her body anymore. They didn’t have the least little piece of her soul.
She was free.
I took her hand in mine. She wore the same knobby silver rings she’d always worn, although they twisted slightly against my palm; her fingers were thinner now. My gaze swept up her slender arms, but they were pale and unmarked in this world.
“Where did she come from?” I asked.
Levi and Jacob exchanged a long look.
“What is it?” I asked.
“She’s a gift from Nimshi,” Levi said. He handed me a note.
Sorry for all the trouble, sweetheart. Thought I’d start making it up to you.
Nim
“Don’t let him win you over this easily,” Levi warned. “He’s dangerous. And he knows where we live. I don’t like it.”
“Of course not,” I said. I stuffed the note in my pocket. “If she’s out of the Company’s hands…I wonder if they’ll go after my mother.”
After all, they would do anything to get me under their control.
“I’ll call the team looking after your mom,” Levi promised me. “I’ll make sure she’s okay.”
“Thank you,” I said.
He turned and jumped from the back of the truck, running for the house.
Jacob watched me with a look I couldn’t quite interpret, curiosity and sympathy and longing. I cocked my head at him.
“Let’s get your sister home,” he said.

About the Author
May Dawson’s first crush was Indiana Jones, and it wasn’t just for Harrison Ford’s rugged good looks. She’s always
been drawn to adventure, and she found it in Bali and the Antarctic, traveling widely before she settled down to raise two red-haired munchkins/hooligans. These days you can find her embracing a very different kind of adventure…love. Living it. Writing it.
The Lilith stories are her first reverse harem series, and she looks forward writing many more stories of love in its infinite and wonderful variety.
