“Why doesn’t she get the same breakfast as me?” she questions again in a soft tone.

“As I said, it’s up to you on how she is treated.”

“Mind to elaborate?” she raises an angry eyebrow looking up into my eyes.

“Don’t forget who is running this show Alexandria!” I snap, causing her to flinch away from me.

She sits quietly and nibbles at her breakfast, only eating half.

“Can you give her the rest of my breakfast please?”

I glare at her. “No,” I say in a steel hardened voice.

She calmly places the plate and remaining milk on the floor. Alexandria lets out a small sigh. “Will you tell me how I control her treatment?”

I grin. “Gladly,” I pause and look over at the shivering female named Sandy as she remains in the tight ball. “It’s simple, give me what I want, and she lives happily ever after. Refuse me, and I will break her bones one at a time as you watch. Then I will heal her, turn her into a vampire and force her to drink your blood. Then you can watch as she suffers and dies in front of your eyes, knowing it was your fault.”

She glares at me with sheer hatred. “You’re a true monster aren’t you?” she spat.

My eyes flash my deadly glare. “You have no idea,” I step closer to her, causing her to move to the far corner of the bed, as terror fills her gaze. “You think I only killed a few people last night?” I pause watching her face pale. “Think again.”

I pick up the TV remote and turn it to the local news channel, knowing there will be twenty-four-hour coverage on my handy work.

The news anchor reads the paper in front of her, not quite believing what she’s saying.

“A true horror comes to the city of Winston-Salem. Last night police were called by an unidentified male, stating he and his wife were about to be robbed. Upon police arrival, they found that all 90 homes within the community had been broken into. Doors were all left open and everyone in the community were found dead. There are no survivors. Police are working diligently to notify all relatives. If you have any information, please-”

I turn the TV off and continue to watch Alexandria’s face. Her skin becomes pasty and tears spring from her eyes. She places her face in her hands and cries.

“All those people…” her head snaps up as she glares unwaveringly into my eyes. “If there was ever a chance of me giving you what you need to survive, it’s gone. You will never get it!” she yells.

I laugh, then stop abruptly and say, “Their deaths are on you, not me. You had the chance to save them, but you chose yourself. But since you still refuse me…” I snap my head in Sandy’s direction. I cock my head and smile darkly.

I take a few steps in Sandy’s direction before Alexandria yells, “Don’t! Leave her alone, don’t you think you’ve done enough?” she panics.

“Clearly not,” I snap before I walk over to Sandy. I unchain her from the wall and pull her by the ankle into the light of Alexandria’s lamp. Sandy screams and claws at the floor as she thrashes trying to get away from me.

Alexandria gasps when she sees Sandy covered in blood.

I grab Sandy by the nape of the neck and lift her off the ground and place her in a nearby folding chair. She tries to scramble away, but I hold her neck firmly and cut off her breathing. She stops moving as tears stream down her face. I release her but stand behind Sandy, holding onto her shoulders. Her body trembles under my touch and I enjoy every moment.

I glare up at Alexandria and say, “Your choice. You can stop this before it starts.”

Alexandria says nothing as she glares at me. So I reach down Sandy’s arm and place my fingers on her pinky finger. I place pressure and Sandy squirms, shutting her eyes, turning her face away.

  “Don’t,” Alexandria whispers.

  “Give me what I want.”

  “No.”

I dislocate Sandy’s finger, and she lets out a pain-filled scream.

  Alexandria flinches.

“That’s only dislocated… imagine if I break a bone,” I purr in Sandy’s ear, loud enough for Alexandria to hear.

I move my fingers up to her forearm and she tries to pull away with every ounce of her being. Unfortunately for her, I break her forearm bone in half, causing her to let out an ear-piercing scream of pure torment as she flails. I hold her tightly in the chair and grin as I move my hand up her arm to the humerus.

At least I still have enough power to break bones…

“Please NO!” Sandy screams as I apply pressure once again.

I glare at the horror-filled face of Alexandria and I place pressure on the bone, on the verge of snapping it. Sandy cries out and Alexandria screams “STOP!”

I pause and cock my head to the side. “Ready to give me what I want?” I question.

“Yes, just please… just stop,” she says as she watches Sandy with tears in her eyes.

I let go of Sandy and approach Alexandria.

“Wait,” Alexandria says placing a hand in front of her. “Heal her first.”

  I narrow my eyes. “Fine.”

I turn to Sandy finding her collapsed on the floor, unconscious.

I lay her on her back and bite into my wrist, causing blood to flow then place my wrist to her mouth and force her to swallow by rubbing her throat.

“What are you doing?” Alexandria panics.

“What you asked. How do you think I healed you? Magic?” I snap.

She quiets down and watches intently as I make Sandy swallow a few more times before picking her up and taking her to the steel cell shrouded in darkness. I place her on the floor, then pour more blood down her throat knowing it’s losing its potency to heal, let alone turn a human into a vampire.

Thinking she has enough in her system, I snap Sandy’s neck. Hopefully, she will awaken a vampire, if not, guess she’s out of her misery. Unlike a human, if an old soul dies with vampire blood in their system, like Alexandria, they will not turn into a vampire. It’s not possible to turn old souls into vampires as their blood counteracts with ours and kills the vampire gene as it heals them. Closing the door of the cell, I lock it, turning my back on Sandy and the fate she faces.

Suddenly standing on the side of Alexandria’s bed, I watch as she looks into the darkness with concern.

I clear my throat, grabbing her attention.

  “Why?” she asks.

  “Why what?” I’m growing agitated.

“Why did you kill all those people?” she asks still refusing to look at me.

“Do you want the truth or a fabricated tale?” I say sarcastically.

She flashes her eyes in my direction, serious as ever. “The truth.”

I genuinely smile at her. “Because, I could.”

The way she furrows her brow almost makes me laugh, but a drop of blood falling to the floor grabs my attention, bringing me back to my dire need. My self-inflicted wound has not sealed and I can feel my skin crawling and twitching. Though it’s not visible to my eye, I can see something has caught Alexandria’s attention. She is watching my skin closely, and she smiles.

I can see it on her face that she has seen this before. Possibly more than she can count. She knows I don’t have long.

She flashes her eyes up to mine and smiles. “You have five minutes. I suggest you use your time wisely.”

I grind my teeth as I say, “How might you suggest I use my time?”

“Begging for your life,” she laughs.

I grab her by the neck and squeeze, cutting most of her oxygen off. She shows no fear, which surprises me. My strength quickly weakens, much faster than I could have ever imagined, and I release her neck. Breathing is becoming harder, and a roaring fire has begun in my gut.

  Chapter 28

I stare deep into Alexandria’s stunning eyes and speak what may be my final words.

“I can save you from him,” I pant, trying one last attempt to plead with her.

She takes in a shuddered breath, and her eyes fill with horror.<

“I can protect you,” I cough, tasting my own blood as it coats my tongue.

“Why should I trust you? You will say anything to save yourself,” she snaps.

I cough again, this time blood sprays the floor as I remain on my hands and knees, too weak to stand.

“When your death, is my first breath…” I whisper. A shiver runs through Alexandria’s body. “The moment I read that…” I cough again, “I wanted to rip him apart. As hard as I’ve tried to hide it, I’m rather infatuated with you, and…” I cough, collapsing to the floor on my side. My breathing is becoming shallower as I look up at Alexandria. “I don’t want… any harm… to come to… you.” I let out another harsh cough, blood pouring from my mouth.

Alexandria stands in front of me, looking down with sadness in her eyes. “No one can save me. Not even you, Ryker.”

My eyes widen at the sound of my name. I’ve never told her…

Gurgling on one last breath, I notice the chain around her ankle is missing. I give a hard laugh, expelling most of my air. “You’re a true… mystery… Alexandria… Kent.”

My body suddenly becomes ridged, my breathing stops and my eyes close with the last image of Alexandria’s face lingering in my mind.

The unrelenting hell of the fire flares, burning every hope I have of escape.

  My eternal damnation has begun…

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I was born and raised in Upstate New York where my passions for Animals, Painting, and Writing developed and grew.

During College, I wanted to be an Animal Cruelty Investigator, but fate had different plans for me. In 2013, my parents and I moved to Palm Coast, Florida where my ability for painting animals exploded, and I started my small hobby business painting pets and wildlife. My art can be found hanging in the 'Georgia Sea Turtle Center' in Jekyll Island, Georgia and the home of Whitney Way Thore, the reality star of 'My Big Fat Fabulous Life.'

Writing began in 2009 when I started to write Fan-Fiction based on some of my favorite books. I loved the way the characters created and molded the story on their own. While writing fan-fiction, I began to crave my own story and develop my own characters. Over the past six years, I have written four complete novels. Three of which create a Trilogy I have named 'Sapphyre.'

During my time in Florida, I found my strong passion for working with Developmentally Disabled children. I became their confidant, friend, and

teacher of Psychosocial Rehabilitation. Seeing their faces always made me smile, no matter my mood! Sadly, I had to leave my position working with the kids I love, when we moved again in 2016 to Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

These days, I can be found in front of a canvas painting, on my computer following a new journey and mostly, spending time with my five-rescued fur-babies; my kitty Valiant, and my four pups, Shelbie, Kasey, Maddie, and Toby. The inspiration and loves of my life!
