True Consequences Page 6

by Robert Barnes

I immediately turned the car off the next exit to head back towards Derby Run. Too many thoughts were running through my head and none of them were good. I dialed Tyrone’s number only to find that the home line was disconnected. It hadn’t been three days since the shooting, so the phone being disconnected really worried me.

Once I got back to the condo, I noticed that the Sonata was gone. Tammy had left a note on the dining room table saying that her body wasn’t feeling right, so she drove herself to the emergency room at Langley AFB. She had to have just left so I headed on base to the hospital. Once I got there, they already had her in the back running tests on her. After sitting for about an hour, the nurse that I spoke to earlier called me to the back. Tammy was laid back looking beautiful with a hospital gown on and an IV stuck in her right arm. The doctor looked at me and smiled as she walked out of the room. The nurse left with the doctor and Tammy began to cry.

I asked her what was wrong, and she just cried and asked me to hold her. I sat on the edge of the bed and laid my head beside her on the pillow as I looked into those beautiful hazel eyes of hers. She couldn’t even get the whole sentence out when she told me she was pregnant. I couldn’t believe what I’d just heard. She said that she was a little over a month pregnant already. I was so overcome with so many emotions that tears flowed out of my eyes too. I was both happy and scared and I saw the same feelings in Tammy’s eyes. Now, not only were we thinking for us but we also had to get things right for our child.

One of my main priorities was to find us a house in the next month or so. I knew that the next few months would be rough for me because I couldn’t possibly tell Tammy all the things that were going on. I’d have to handle everything without my partner’s influence, especially now that she was pregnant.

We left the hospital with me followin’ her back to Derby Run. I got all the pillows in the house and propped them up on her bed so she could rest. I would be her 24-hour servant so she wouldn’t have to do much. We discussed findin’ a nice place to move and raise a child. I let her know that by next month I’d have her in a house with at least three bedrooms in a nice, quiet neighborhood.

Once she fell asleep, I started making phone calls on my cell. I tried all of the numbers I had for Tyrone but none of them were on. Then it hit me like a rock; I hadn’t been to the condo in Richmond to pick up my profit of the money for the week. I’d gotten the $70,000 from Tyrone two weeks earlier for the five kilos, but I still had to pick up the rest.

A tight pain shot thru my stomach because I knew my gut feelings were right. My next call was to Tyrone’s mother’s house. Tyrone’s mother was always nice no matter what was going on, so when she answered the phone singing, I didn’t think it was unusual. I asked her how Tyrone was doing and she said he was doing fine in Richmond working hard for the summer. Now I was a little thrown off being that her son had just taken at least two Ruger slugs to his ass. I asked her when was the last time she’d spoken to him and she said it had been about a week. I ended the conversation and plotted my next move.

Without awaking Tammy, I went into her closet and got the other Desert Eagle and her holster out. I made sure I had the extra clips and bullets for both of the Desert Eagles. Then I pulled the duffel bag and the suitcases with the false bottoms out. It took about an hour to count all the money up. We had $573,000 in cash and fifteen kilos left to move. I still had to pick up $50,000 from the condo in Richmond that I’d never picked up last week. I left a note by the bed telling Tammy that I had to run out for awhile and for her to call if she needed me. I strapped the two holsters with both Desert Eagles in them on me. My first stop was Tyrone’s house outside of Highland Springs.

When I pulled up, I noticed both cars were gone and there was a note on the door telling the current renter to contact the owner. I looked through the windows and all the furniture was still there, along with some smeared blood by the front door. Things just weren’t adding up to me at all. I left and went to the condo in Henrico. I went in to find that the house was a mess. There was food on the floor and dirty clothes laying by the steps. I opened the refrigerator and there was half of a six-pack of Red Bull along with two bottles of MD 20/20. Tyrone was obviously living in the condo at times. I headed upstairs to check the safe and the stash. The safe was empty and so was the spot under the bed where we usually leave the money. Somehow, I knew there would be no money waiting for me.

As I headed downstairs I noticed that one of the empty bedrooms had a mattress in it with clothes laid all over the place. I could already tell that someone was sleeping in the master bedroom but this new evidence meant that more than one person had been staying at the condo. I decided to leave everything like it was and head out to a few spots that I remembered from my first tour through Richmond to meet some of the dealers. As I headed to the car, I saw one of the neighbors sitting out in front of her condo. I approached her and asked her how things had been going around there lately.

She seemed like the nosey type, so I asked her if my cousin had been to our condo lately. She began by asking me which one was my cousin. That kind of caught me off guard, but I played along and said Tyrone was my cousin. I also let her know that I wasn’t aware of anyone else living with Tyrone. She started going on about how disrespectful the other guy was, but she wasn’t sure of his name. She told me that for the past few weeks, Tyrone and the other fellow had been inseparable. They usually left at nighttime and didn’t return until the next morning. Friday was the last time she’d seen them both together and they’d left in both cars. I asked her when was the last time she’d seen Tyrone and she told me that he’d left the condo about three hours ago and he didn’t look too good. He had bandages sticking out of his pants and he was limping. She said it was odd seeing him without his partner, especially during the daytime.

It was time for me to head out to Highland Park to get some info about what was going on. I remembered one of the main dealers in Highland Park named Jason AKA “Black Jay”. He was getting out of his pearl white Corvette with white BBS’s on it. I pulled beside him and rolled down the window and he immediately reached for his pistol. I expected that sort of reaction, so I put my hands up and told him who I was. He apologized and put the double action Sig back in his pants. He hopped in the BMW and we parked and talked for a while. I didn’t wanna let him know everything that was going on, so I told him that I hadn’t been able to locate Tyrone lately. He started laughing and told me everyone in Richmond knew where to find Tyrone; in Church Hill. I told him this was news to me, so he began to run the story down to me.

Evidently, Tyrone had been fucking a hood rat named Ebony Smith for over a year now. She was a well-known heroin addict from Church Hill. She managed to keep herself in decent shape even though she snorted heroin. She was twenty eight years-old and she knew the streets of Richmond well because of her brother Brian AKA “B”. I wanted to stop Black Jay after I heard the name “B” but I let him keep going with the story.

B was well-known for his numerous schemes to get money, from stickups to selling fake dope. Every time Ebony or B did get money, they blew it quick on heroin or their tremendous gambling habits. At first, Tyrone didn’t know about Ebony’s drug or gambling habits but it didn’t take long before he found out. Tyrone tried to keep her with him at the Towers by VCU but she started stealing people’s things while he was gone to class. About three months ago, right after Black Jay met with me and Tyrone, Ebony and B started throwing big money around.

My stomach was starting to cramp up just listening to this shit because I knew I had been played for a fool. I’d put a lot of trust into Tyrone and it had almost cost me my life. Black Jay said that he’d bought cocaine from Tyrone a few times after we’d set up shop in Richmond, but he stopped because the cocaine went from good quality to bad. Tyrone was starting to cut the coke with B12 and customers were complaining.

I knew that Tyrone wasn’t cutting the coke because he didn’t know anything about cutting coke. B must have conv
inced Tyrone to let him cut the cocaine for a greater profit. I asked Black Jay when the coke started to get bad and he said about a month ago. Whatever Tyrone was doing, he had made sure my share of the money was correct up to now. The word around Richmond was that Tyrone had started snorting heroin with Ebony recently and they had lost big amounts of money in the dice house on the Southside of Richmond. The last thing that Black Jay told me was that Brian AKA “B” had been killed two days ago and Tyrone had been shot too, but survived.

The TV news said that it was an attempted robbery that turned deadly. Police were looking for a black male driving a dark colored Honda Accord. No one on the streets believed that anyone was trying to rob B and Tyrone, but that’s what the news had been saying. The funeral was going on in Church Hill as we conversated. I didn’t need to hear anymore, because I knew the rest.

Tyrone and B were responsible for the break in at Signature Place and they had planned on possibly killing me when I came to the house outside Highland Springs if I didn’t lead them to the cocaine. Why would Tyrone break in the spot at Signature Place after I’d just put him in a setup with four kilos?

I got Black Jay’s cell number before I left Highland Park and let him know I’d be getting up with him soon about some serious business. My mind was racing but I needed more answers. I called home to check on Tammy while I headed back to the condo in Henrico. She was doing fine; watching TV and eating a chicken salad. I told her I was in Richmond and I’d be back in a few hours. She told me to make sure I brought her a chocolate chip ice cream cookie from 7/11 on my way home.

After ending the call, I focused on the task at hand. I knew Tyrone would be back to the condo shortly after the funeral, so I needed to hurry up and get there. Instead of turning into the court, I parked down the street by the other apartments. I went in through the back just in case the nosey neighbor was still out. There was a closet across from the bathroom downstairs, so I got in it and sat down. Both Desert Eagles were with me and each of them had a bullet in the chamber. I must have been in the closet for about an hour before the front door to the condo opened up. I waited a few seconds to make sure Tyrone was alone. Once I heard the refrigerator open, I eased out of the closet with one of the Desert Eagles in my hand and the other still in the holster.

As soon as Tyrone closed the refrigerator door and turned around, I brought the butt of the Desert Eagle across the bridge of his nose with all the force I had. I could literally hear the bone in his nose crack open. He didn’t have a chance to make a sound because I had the barrel of the Desert touching his tonsils immediately after his mouth opened. My knee was on his chest and he was laid out on the kitchen floor trying to hold his nose and breathe at the same time.

After he started choking on the barrel of the gun, I eased it out of his mouth so I could get some answers. Blood was shooting all over the place from his nose and both his eyes were starting to swell. I stood up and stomped on his stomach so his ass would throb where he had already been shot. He was in so much pain and shock that he couldn’t make a sound come out of his mouth. I grabbed a dishrag off the counter and threw it to him for his nose. I told him I wanted answers immediately or he’d be visiting B sooner than he thought. It took him ten minutes before he could mumble a word that made sense. He was crying and trying to say he was sorry in the same breath.

My first question was about the $50,000 he owed me. He made up some nonsense about him trying to flip the $50,000 since I’d taken so long to come get it. I told him that I knew about Ebony and B, so he’d better not bullshit me. Tyrone said the Signature Place break-in had been B’s idea because B figured I had a lot of kilos at home if I could start off with four kilos in Richmond.

Since they didn’t find anything at Signature Place, Tyrone convinced B to chill and help distribute the cocaine. Their habits were costing more than they were making off the coke, so B came up with the idea to start cutting the coke. Tyrone said he tried his best to continue to make sure that I got paid every week, so they started doing stick-ups to keep the money right. Finally, B planned out a way to get me to Tyrone’s so they could make me lead them to the cocaine.

I was tired of hearing the shit, so I took the Desert Eagle and swung the butt of it until it connected with the left side of Tyrone’s temple. I didn’t know if he was dead or not, but his body fell limp. I left him lying in his own blood in the middle of the kitchen as I went out the back door.

I jumped in the BMW and headed back towards Hampton. I knew that I couldn’t go into anything major without someone with me that I trusted. Rodney was the only person other than Tammy that I’d want to involve in some street shit, but I didn’t think he’d be ready to expand to Richmond. I had to accomplish a lot of things in a little bit of time now that Tammy was pregnant. I called Rodney and let him in on everything that was going on and what I wanted to do in Richmond. He told me he’d sit down with me on the weekend and discuss the pros and cons. I let him know that I’d meet him at the party Friday night at the Holiday Inn.

When I got back to Derby Run, Tammy was still sitting in front of the television watching the Lifetime channel. I could tell she had been crying a little so I started walking towards her. She stood up and immediately started screaming and pointing at me. I almost pulled out one of the Desert Eagles I still had on me, because I thought that maybe someone had snuck in behind me. As soon as I looked down, I knew exactly what all the fuss was about. My shirt and jeans were splattered with blood. I took my shirt off, Tammy saw both Desert Eagles strapped in the holsters and that made a bad situation worse. I sat her down on the couch and tried to explain the best I could.

First, I reminded her that she was pregnant and that I wanted her to have a stress free pregnancy. After she calmed down, I told her the whole story, beginning with my phone call from Rodney about Signature Place, to me knocking Tyrone out with the Desert Eagle. When I told her that Tyrone and B had been partners, her eyes got big and focused. She told me that she was just glad that the blood on me wasn’t my own.

Tammy looked so beautiful sitting there holding onto me. She said that I should have let her come along just in case things got crazy. She let me know that she wished that she had killed Tyrone too. I was starting to notice the mood swings that I was hoping were the result of her pregnancy. One minute she was crying and the next she was ready for war.

She made me promise to involve her in everything that I planned from that point on. I apologized for forgetting her chocolate chip ice cream cookie, but all she cared about was being in my arms at that point. We stayed in the living room and discussed where we were financially and where we wanted to be in the next six months. We still owed Trey $250,000 for the last trip we took to see him, but there were fifteen kilos left to easily take care of that bill.

I let her know that Rodney would probably be going to Richmond with me to handle the business that we’d intended to do in the first place, so the only thing she would need to focus on in the next couple of months would be to eat healthy and collect the money from the laundry mat. We decided to get rid of the spot at Signature Place and find a house over the next few weeks.

I finally went and showered up to get the smell of blood that was now more obvious than ever, off of me. By the time I got out of the shower, Tammy was fast asleep on her bed with my Tabb High t-shirt on and nothing else. She was laying on her back on top of the covers. I thought she was purposely teasing me, because her legs were spread apart so that her fat pussy lips were separated enough to see a little wetness shining between them.

I eased up between her legs and gently parted her pussy lips with my thumbs. Her clit looked so lonely there all by itself, so I began to lick slowly in a circular motion. I knew she was awake when she locked her hands over both my ears and guided my tongue all over her clit and pussy like she wanted it.

Before long, her hips were bucking back and forth as she fed her pussy to me like I was starving. She was moaning louder and louder as that left leg of hers started to s
hake uncontrollably. As she came in my mouth, she tried to push me away from her pussy so she could regain some composure. Afterwards, I ended up holding her from behind and rubbing her belly until we both fell asleep.

The next day I finally made it out to Military Circle Mall and bought Andre a nice Movado watch for graduation. Tammy and I decided that we were gonna announce the pregnancy to my family on Friday—graduation night. We were planning a trip to see Trey by the end of the month, so that’s when we’d tell her brothers. There was still one situation that I needed to get to the bottom of, but I needed more answers first.

Later on, I decided to go visit Isaac at his new place out in Four Seasons. His brother had given me the address, so I went to see what was up. When I arrived, I didn’t see the new Acura he had anywhere in the parking lot. I knocked on the door but no one answered, so I decided to come back some other time.

When I was pulling out of the parking lot a black 740 BMW was turning into the spot by Isaac’s apartment. The car looked familiar, but I couldn’t remember exactly where I’d seen it before. I was driving the Sonata, so if it was anyone I knew they wouldn’t know it was me anyway. I started to turn around and see who got out of the BMW, but I didn’t go back.

I left Four Seasons and headed towards Highway 17 to go by our laundry mat. It was crowded for a weekday, but I noticed that there were no soda machines or any vending machines for our customers to buy drinks or snacks. I called Tammy and told her to check the newspaper for some snack and soda machines to put in the laundry mat. I also told her it may be a good idea to put a TV and some chairs in, even if we had to get rid of a few machines to make room. Before we got off the phone, she reminded me to get her chocolate chip ice cream cookie this time. I stopped at the 7/11 on the corner of Saunders and Big Bethel and bought her ice cream on my way back to Derby Run. We chilled at home for the rest of the week until graduation day.
