  “Then it sounds like you have time to stretch your legs,” Fleet said.

  “I should be working.”

  “You’re not going to get any work done. You’re going to be thinking about those books.”

  Annja frowned. “You’re probably right.”

  “Afternoon sunlight outside,” Fleet said. “We could stop by the canteen and pick up some food for an impromptu picnic. There are some pretty places around here for a walk.”

  Annja’s first inclination was to turn down the offer. But she’d been working hard. When she hadn’t been working on the city site, she’d been thinking about how she was going to finish the excavation on the sunken Roman trade ship. Both sites had things to offer, and she had an opportunity to finish both.

  But a walk—just for a while—sounded good.

  “All right,” she said, and she went with Fleet out into the bright afternoon.
