She held his gaze. “You don’t give me one penny of your money?”
Hope bloomed in his chest. “Not unless you will allow it.”
Jules pushed her hands up along his torso. “You once told me my pride may risk more than I want it to. I will take your help if you’re serious about willing to offer.”
“And us?” He cupped her cheek. “Can you honestly tell me you don’t feel the same?” he challenged.
She worried her lower lip and shook her head slightly. “It doesn’t matter, you’re so far out—”
“No,” he interrupted. “You don’t get to talk about the money. I asked you how you felt about me, Rex. Not Royal Hamilton, the business mogul. Rex, the man you shared a life and bed with.”
“You’re one and the same.”
“Not with you, Jules. Never with you.” If only she would believe him. “Tell me.”
“I love you.”
The way her eyes widened as the words slipped out, he knew that she hadn’t meant to admit that to him. At least not at this time.
“Kiss him or deck him, Jules. Either one but do it quick. Meghan is arriving.” Ward’s deep voice filtered in to the barn.
“If it’s all the same to you, I’d prefer the kiss,” Rex said.
“I think I can handle that.” She pushed up on her toes and gave him a kiss that damn near curled his toes. Then she gave his lip a small bite as she whispered, “We can continue this later.”
With reluctance, he stepped back. “Yes.” He had more questions. Namely the one about her possible pregnancy. He just didn’t want to ask and have her think that’s why he said what he did. The truth was though, he didn’t care either way as long as he had her back in his life, in his arms.
Jules ducked beneath his arm and hurried out the door.
Rex followed at a more leisurely pace, smiling as he oversaw her welcome the little girl. Yes, this is where she belonged. And that restlessness in his soul since he’d left her, calmed. So, in essence—she was where he belonged.

Jules stared at the ring on her finger, blinked, and doubled checked it once more. She was married! Even the thought still made her knees tremble. It had been a whirlwind event. Done in secret with his friend Tanner and his wife, Kyla, Dan had been there as well as Lissette there on his side and Ward on hers. Oh, and his sister Riona had made an appearance. There’s was a tentative relationship there, as she didn’t feel Jules was good enough for her brother.
I wonder that myself sometimes.
She didn’t want to move to Vancouver, so more often than not, Rex stayed with her and commuted in. He said he didn’t mind using the jet to go back and forth, he had it for a reason and may as well use it.
Her nights were filled with passion and they were getting into a routine. One she enjoyed.
“Jules!”
“Be right there,” she called back to Rex. Hurrying up the hallway, she smiled as she laid eyes on him. Dressed in his suit, he never failed to set her blood on fire. His smile didn’t help any. Her entire body flushed at the thought of spending another night in his arms. “What? Dinner will be ready in a bit. I didn’t think you were coming home until later.”
Rex moved toward her and kissed her. She sank into him, twining her arms around him.
“I’ve missed you, wife.”
That word still made her want to look around to see who he was talking to. Or about. “And I you, husband.”
“I’m home early because I have something for you.”
She pulled back and looked at him. “What? I don’t need you to get anything for me.”
“Which is why I love doing it. You don’t expect it. Before I do. I have to tell you the fundraiser is on for next week.”
“Thank you, Rex!” She hugged him tight. It had been nerve-wracking as he’d put it together for her. Correction, not for her, she was with him for the planning, but he was—no denying it—the name and bank behind it.
“You will have to be there and give a talk about what your business does, they’ll have questions, but don’t worry. I will be there every step of the way with you.”
Her stomach tightened. She hated talking in front of groups but this was something she would ignore that for. Head on his chest, she sighed. “I know you will.”
Their relationship may have been unorthodox but the connection between them had been electric from the jump and then it only grew.
“We’re going to announce our marriage there as well.”
“Are you doing that to make them scared, so they will offer money?”
He chuckled. “No, but it’s a great idea. I’m doing it because I’m tired of people thinking I’m still single. I’m tired of wearing my ring only when I’m here and having to take it off each morning on my way in to the office.”
Okay, so she hadn’t thought about that. “Yes, I see. I suppose I have to get a dress then, don’t I?”
“I’m perfectly fine with you showing up in this but yes, I would advise something a bit dressier. I can have Riona help you.”
Right, as if the thought of speaking at a fundraiser didn’t create enough fear within her, let’s put his sister in the room with her. Not. “I’ll be fine. I have shopped for dresses before. I won’t embarrass you.”
“You could never do that. Now, come with me. I have something to show you.”
She laced her fingers through his and allowed him to lead her out the door. “Where are we going?”
“The arena.”
She furrowed her brow. No reason to go there in her mind. It was all closed up for the night. But he wanted her to go and she had no issue doing that. She’d been running hard all day and Ward had closed up for her. Typically, she followed behind and checked merely to satisfy her own need. With Rex coming home early, that hadn’t happened yet, so this worked out for her.
He slid the barn door open enough for them to slip inside.
The arena light was on, spilling light onto the path they had to walk. She slanted her gaze to the man walking beside her. Broad shoulders filled out his suitcoat as if it had been made specifically for him, which it had. He wore it so well, yet had no problem throwing on a pair of jeans and helping out around the stables. She couldn’t explain the depth of her love for him.
The only thing that could make her life better was the one thing she’d had to give up to keep the farm, before Rex came back into her life. Sure, he would have no problem writing a check for her and he’s told her so, but she didn’t want him to think she wanted his money. She was okay with accepting his help in setting up fundraisers to make money for the farm.
They approached the arena. Now she stared across the huge space and her heart dropped to her feet as tears burst from her eyes, streaking down her face.
Walking around across the sand was none other than her stallion, Conquistador. The bay lifted his head and snorted before cantering across to her.
She met him, hurrying inside the enclosure. Throwing her arms around him, the sobs came even harder. When she’d managed to get some semblance of control, she let him go and turned to her husband who’d entered as well but stood back from the two of them. “Rex, this is too much.”
“No, Jules. This is my wedding gift to you. You turned down the trips, you turned down my money. This…this I know you won’t turn down. He’s yours. He has only ever been yours and the man who bought him knew that.”
“I don’t deserve this, or you,” she said walking into his strong embrace. “I love you, Royal Hamilton. I love you so much.”
“And I love you, Jules.”
