Starjewel (Duskwing – Star Wing) — f. Fold member for the Star Wing at the Duskwing colony. Mother of Moonshadow with Moondust. Appearance: bright, blue eyes. A kind, peaceful face. Tattoos: has stars tattooed on the palms of her hands.
Strickland (Land Wing) — m. The Sire. Has children with Zada and ScarletFall. Is responsible for the entire Shadows colony. Appearance: shorter than his son Rockland. Hard, muscled, and strong. Highly judgmental. Usually scowling and/or frowning. Tattoos: three thick bands of black ink circle his forearms.
Sylvana (No Wing) — f. The medicine woman & shaman of the Shadows colony. Traditionally the medicine man or woman should not belong to a wing so that they don’t favor any one wing. They need to be concerned and focused on the colony as one. Appearance: long, wild, grey hair. Full skirts and flowing clothing that smells of incense and healing herbs. Tattoos: pagan signs and symbols inside her wrists.
Temblor (Vuelo de la Muerte – Mother Nature Wing) — m. Guard at the Muerte compound. Appearance: has a barely healed, ragged scar that runs from the middle of his forehead across his left eye to his ear. Scruffy, dirty hair. Tattoos: anatomically correct bones tattooed on the back of his fingers and hands. His name means earthquake tremor.
Tromba (Vuelo de la Muerte – Mother Nature Wing) — f. Guard at the Muerte compound. Appearance: extremely thin with dead straight should length hair. Wears gold hoop earrings and dozens of gold bangles and chains on both wrists. Black leather pants and vest. Her name means whirlwind.
Tronido (Vuelo de la Muerte – Mother Nature Wing) — m. His name means thunderclap.
Venus (Vuelo de la Muerte – Planetary Wing) — f. Sister of the Vuelo de la Muerte’s Sire. Mother of Willow with Cypress from the Shadow’s colony. Appearance: middle aged, yet super model gorgeous with thick, long hair worn in two braids over her chest. Her name means Venus.
Violet (Plant Wing) — f. A young female chosen by the Sire to feed Rockland and form a blood bond. She is a good friend of Rebekkah and Zabreena. Has had a huge crush on Rockland since she was a pup. Appearance: tiny, petite girl with scars from the early bat attacks across her forehead and down her arms.
Willow (Vuelo de la Muerte – Plant Wing) — m. Son of Cypress. He lives at the Vuelo de la Muerte colony, and at twenty, is the oldest member of the newly formed Plant wing. Appearance: is a very handsome young guy that takes after his gorgeous mother. Tattoos: the Plant wing crest on the inside of his right forearm. A matching swirl on the inside of his left forearm that shows the Plant wing crest when he’s a bat.
Zabreena (Z Wing) — f. Daughter of Zambia. Second cousin of Celand, Rockland, and Graceland, and Decker, Baxter, and Bailey. Best friends with Rebekkah. Appearance: angular, hard facial features. Wavy, wild hair. She wears very low cut and revealing clothing that shows off her assets. A large scar runs from the corner of her lip down under her chin. Tattoos: half-inch wide bands across her eyes creating the look of heavy eyeliner.
Zada (Z Wing) — f. Mother of Celand, Rockland, Decker, Graceland, Baxter, Moonshiner, & Bailey. Sister of Zander. Appearance: long, dark brown messy hair. Tattoos: colored flowers on her neck, chest, and back.
Zander (Z Wing) — m. Fold member for the Z Wing. Father of Zulu and Zara with LitteSong. Younger brother of Zada. His father, Zeth, was a fold member, and his Grandfather, Zan, was a fold member. Uncle of Celand, Rockland, Graceland, Decker, Baxter, and Bailey. Uncle by marriage of Malachite. Appearance: shoulder length, straight black hair. He has the same high cheekbones as Rockland and is very good-looking for a thirty-five-year-old. Has a nice, kind smile. Tattoos: like Rockland has swirls and patterns covering his arms which only create a tattoo when he’s a bat.
Zola (Z Wing) — f. Zada’s cousin and Rockland’s first cousin once removed. She runs the dairy and makes cheese to sell at the market. Rocks swapped her some goat’s milk if she would charge his phone since she has an industrial refrigerator in the dairy.
Glossary
Aeronaught: an ordinary human that cannot fly.
Camazotz: a human with the ability to shape-shift into a vampire bat. Any offspring born of a Camazotz will also have the ability to shape-shift.
Clip: the leaders of the other smaller wings not represented in the Fold. Each wing votes for a leader. From these leaders the seven Fold are chosen. When the colony faces grave danger, the Clip are invited to help the Fold and Sire make a decision.
Fledgers: name given to Camazotz aged fourteen to eighteen years of age.
Flip: the involuntary shape-shift from human to vampire bat that occurs thirty-six hours after their last shift. This prevents the Camazotz from choosing to stay in their human form forever. However, Camazotz and can choose to flip at any point in time as well.
Naught: a derogatory term for a human.
Pups: name given to young Camazotz from birth until thirteen years of age.
Roost: the top secret location where the Camazotz live as bats.
Shaman: someone who can cast spells or curses of great power. They can summon good or evil spirits and were labeled witches throughout history. The Camazotz rely on the shaman for healing.
The Fold: the members of the ruling council that create the laws and decide the fate of the whole colony. There are seven members in the Fold. They are usually the heads of the most powerful wings, but are voted onto the ruling council by all adult and fledger colony members.
The Sire: the leader of the colony voted into power by the Fold members. The Sire will rule indefinitely until he decides to step down or is challenged by another Fold member. This usually consists of a fight to the death.
Wings: family bloodlines within the colony. Each member sees themselves as part of a wing rather than part of this family or that. Members born into each wing are named for that wing to identify their father’s bloodline.
