There was a knock at the door.
‘Celeste, are you done with the shaving?’ Ewan’s voice boomed even from the other side of the door.
Celeste bent and wiped her mouth discreetly on her apron. ‘Just now, monsieur,’ she called out.
She gathered the shaving equipment and stood. But before she opened the door she stopped next to Lilly’s quaking body, bent down near her ear.
‘Make sure not to touch yourself now, madame,’ she said. When she placed a soft, wet kiss on her mistress’s lips, Lilly realised the tangy taste was that of her own wanting.
‘Celeste?’ she whispered, as her maid opened the door and walked out as her husband walked in.
That night, after Ewan carried her in his arms from the lab to their bedroom, as she lay quaking beside him, willing her body into calmness, Lillianne saw it all.
She saw it all then.
If she thought she had a chance against Phillip, the idea that Celeste was colluding with him made her want to break down and weep. How could she convince Ewan that she did not indeed have this affliction if she was to be left, day after day, tied up and helplessly alone with Celeste? How would she ever explain to her husband that the person he saw as sexually void burned just as bright as she? How would she ever make it stop?
And what if …
Oh God. What if she didn’t want it to?
