We both returned to moon gazing. Thoughts of the future chased each other through my brain. Although the nagging sensation of unfinished business had disappeared, I couldn’t return to my contented state from before the bloody vows. Once again it was Ivy who broke the long silence.
“You look thoughtful. Do you regret… us?”
“No, I was just thinking it was a long time to wait.”
“A long time to wait?”
“Three whole years…”
Ivy shook with silent laughter. She wrapped her arms around mine and leaned in to share warmth. Her last word was barely a whisper before she drifted off to sleep against my shoulder.
“Pervert.”
