Before she could finish asking the question, he answered for her. “Yes, Simone, it was bad news about your brother. He’s dead; killed by some idiots.”

Simone started sobbing in his arms. “Oh, Chase, not my brother too. It can’t be! Why?”

“Simone, I don’t know what to say.”

“Damn, Chase, I love you so much. My life is so crazy. I wish Ginger was still alive and things were different! I wish I could just turn back the hands of time. If we could just go somewhere and be together . . . just you and me, life would be perfect.” Her tears wet his shirt as he grew confused on what to do next. He loved her too and was torn considering he knew there was a direct link with Bunny and the criminal cases he was investigating.

When Simone blurted out that the doctors thought she had cancer and she hoped he wouldn’t abandon her, Detective Chase Dugan knew against his better judgment what he had to do . . . forget he’d found the bag of stolen money from the bank robbery he’d discovered in the linen closet and take care of the woman he loved—even if it cost him his badge. At the end of the day, love was all that truly mattered to him. Hopefully, he’d never find out all the Banks sisters’ deep dark secrets, because who knows if love for anyone is really that strong!
