by John Daly
KEN GARLAND built my all-time favorite home for me. Together with his wife, MARGARET GARLAND, we have built one of the all-time great friendships. You’re two of the big reasons I love Memphis.
We try to beat each other’s brains out, but the guys on the PGA TOUR really are one big brotherhood. Through all my struggles, I’ve always received love and support and understanding from just about everybody I’ve teed it up with. Early on, there was my mentor and partner in crime, Mr. FUZZY ZOELLER. You taught me a lot, Fuzz, and some of it didn’t even get me into trouble. Guys like CRAIG STADLER and HUBERT GREEN made a young, long-haired punk feel like he belonged, even when he wasn’t so sure himself. Along the way, PETER JACOBSEN and COREY PAVIN and BOB ESTES and MARK BROOKS and JIMMY MCGOVERN (and the list goes on and on) went out of their way to give me a boost when I needed one. More recently, PAT PEREZ and TIM HERRON have shared plenty of laughs with me. And whenever I was in trouble in the last 15 years, superstars like TOM WATSON and ARNOLD PALMER and GREG NORMAN were always among the first to call me and tell me to hang in there.
Finally, where would I be today without the inspiration and example of my childhood idol, JACK NICKLAUS? Thanks, Jack, for your many words of support and encouragement over the years.
