“Really,” said Heather. “I don’t doubt it.”
“So we’re free to go?” said Deb.
“Yeah. But give me your cell phone number so I can contact you if necessary. There could be a hearing or trial. But I doubt it.”
The woman stopped at a country restaurant called Mama ’s Kitchen on the way out of town. They were starving and enjoyed a meal of hotcakes, eggs and bacon.
Deb followed the road signs and arrows after pulling out of restaurant parking lot. Five minutes later, she saw the sign to 71 South. And though it was fifteen miles away, she leaned back in her seat and took a deep breath—glad to be alive.
